Black Mission

Today I tasted my 2nd and last bm of the season and the taste is superb. It is a teeny weeny fig ..the size is a bit bigger than a dime. My husband was surprised that it tasted so good. The first fig was just ok. Nothing to shout about. I am one of those unlucky ones that do not have many figs on the trees. Looking forward to taste the one and only flanders soon. And then I have to wait for another fruiting season.

The black missions here are really big and juicy.

I agree with brianm! They are also very tasty, one of the best, and do not cost you arm and leg.

Norhayati, you may of gotten some brebas. Brebas can be smaller than Main crop. Black Mission is my True Love.

Norhayati: I was searhing thru the forum to see if any one has grown black missions here in southeast asia. am glad to have found your post.

may i ask a few questions? hoping you might bestow some answers heehee

1) where did you aqquire your fig plant? from cuttings?

2) how's the growing? vigourous?

3) is it self-fertile? meaning no need polinators to fruit

4) Main crop or Breba crop type?

thanks a lot..... awaiting good news......

Hello LobsterX, I got my cuttings from Indonesia. It is very vigorous, the biggest and tallest of all my fig tree. But then again it is growing in a 12 gallon dustbin while the rest are in 4 gallon pails. It is a common fig so it does not require any pollination. Since you are living in Singapore ( same climate as Malaysia) and there's no waspsfor pollination, you should only grow common type, not samyrna, capri but maybe san pedro. I have not grown any san pedro yet. Black mission have both the main and breba crop. All I can say it is worth growing black mission in our climate since it is not fussy and having closed eyes is a bonus.

Thanks!

did you personally bring the cuttings over to malaysia or you ordered from online and got it sent to you? how much did it costs., I'm interested in growing the Black mission. Ive seen some offerings on Ebay, but am holding back as there have been reports of figs mis-IDed as black mission.

Please advice a reputable source for cuttings so i can start a plant or 2 of the black mission.

Thanks again.
