Black Mission Question

I have a 2nd year black mission that is ripening it's first fruit now. I picked two yesterday that were descent, but there were 3 still on the tree that were pretty firm. I picked them this afternoon and two of them were completely spoiled. Is this a typical trait for black mission, to spoil quickly when ripe, or is my experience a result of high humidity and a young tree?

Could be due to the fact that it is a young tree...most varieties start producing edible fruit in the 3rd. growing season(there are exceptions), and it usually gets better from there on out...I have a number of 1 and 2 yr. old trees that have figs on them, but the chances of them producing ripe, sweet fruit this season are not likely.

don't have Black Mission, so not sure how quickly they will ripen. i know some figs will start to swell, change color and stay that way for day or two and then ready for picking. if the eye is too large, there is chance bugs will crawl in or moisture from outside will cause some issue, but to get completely spoiled.. i would imagine that would take some time. was it still firm outside?

Cajun grew and had many mission figs for several years but never spoiled here in our climate which is different from yours.

Just a guess but maybe too much rain and humidity may have been the problem, but then if you did not have much rain i do not know .

The strain i had was from Monrovia and discarded due to flavor not impressive on my palate.

thanks martin! i was trying to find a reason to get Monrovia Black Mission. now i don't have to :)

Thanks for all the input everyone, I'm going to give this little guy one more year to impress...
