I never seen black spots like those leaves display.
Could someone have sprayed something on them like weed killer or bug spray by accident ?
Or someone playing around with a lighter or magnify glass ?

Hi Martin, no, I don't think anyone has been near them, and I don't think they'd just single one out. It is on more than just one leaf, about 4-5 out of 15. I'm pretty worried about it.

That doesn't look like anything getting dripped or sprayed on. Normally when I see black spots on green leaves, I think fungus. It can happen fast. If the margins were sharper, I might suggest cold water (or hot)  got splashed on them. Hard to tell from a photo.

Looks like anthracnose. How much sun and wind does it get?

Scot i think your fig  have fungus disease be sure no to wet leaves when you water your figs and try to spray some fungicide after rain. Be sure to remove all dead leaves around figs and burn it to prevent future spread of the disease.

they get about 5-6 hours of direct sun, little wind, we did have quite a bit of rain between last night and till I saw thie leaves this evening, I guess a fungus would make sense. what kind of fungicide should I apply to them? would it be better to just get rid of the tree? I'd hate to get rid of the tree but I'll do whatever I have to do to make sure it doesn't spread. thanks to all for the fast responses, this forum and it's membersare the best!!

Scott, don't get rid of the tree!  Give it a chance.  Figs are tough!  This has never happened to me, so, if it did, I'd smother it with Thuricide, strip it of it's leaves after chopping it in half, and wait..........  Drastic, but sometimes drastic measures produce dramatic results.  Not telling you to do that.  It's just what I'd do, but... consider the source!  :-)

Suzi

I would just clip the leaves and then toss them in the trash. Diseases like this are caused by cultural and environmental conditions. If you can move the tree to where it gets more sun and wind and water it only before noon so the leaves stay dry it should stop spreading.

Are the spots only on the top side of the leaf?

Do a google search on black spot fungus for treatment...

I'm going to tyry doing that suzi, like I said I hate to get rid of it but I can't let it spread to any other of my trees, wish me luck and thanks again everyone for your input. Wish me luck.

I had some hail damage that showed up a week or so later after the actual storm.

Looked very similar to that in the photos.

i think it's storm damage. we have pretty heavy rain last night. i have same thing on one of my tree.

One tree, only, taking damage in a storm like that is impossible Pete. I am 100% sure something (micro-organism) is eating the leaves of Scott's tree and causing the discoloration.

I took some leaves to a nursery near me and the resident "expert" said that if it hadn't happened to all of my trees yet then it probably wouldn't happen at all. And that it was some type of fungus, He did say that cutting it back hard wouldn't hurt it at all, that it would come back and probably be just fine. I did get some fungicide and sprayed too. thanks for everyones responses.

Follow up on the black spot fungus it is actually located in the soils under the tree you need to make sure you treat the area around the tree as well as the tree.......
I believe Neam oil is recommended..

Hi Al, thanks I'll look into that tomorrow at the stores.
