Black Unknown

Got up early and was looking at the tree from patio and spot a bird in it. I then hear him calling to his friends that  breakfast is ready. So I went out and picked one ripe one and one that could have waited a few more days at least. These are both breba in pics 18 & 22 grams I know I'm partial to this tree but boy does it have a nice flavor and seed taste. Not as dark as last season yet

Sal those pctures are fantastic looking as they capture the very fine details often overlooked or not seen by some folks blind as me such as the skin detail on right picture of whole fig (first picture)
The little open fig looks like a million dollars , cant wait to see the main crop ones.
Thanks

very nice looking fig. I guess the early bird didnt get the fig.

OK Martin just went out and took these pics of some main crop showing color these are in patio in pots The breba were from in ground tree which is ripening main crop at same time. You can see the color difference I mentioned. How Bout Them Figs????   ;)

YES  !
Thanks very much those have nice color wow they will look even nicer im sure soon.
Hey Sal did you break a above leaf that dripped down latex on fig i see?
If so so you know when black spots appear that what made them, sometimes this happens to me and or when a fig leaf rubs on fig over time it mars it also but does nothing to fig otherwise in taste only in appearence which mean absolutely nothing least to me.

No I did not Martin I noticed this last year and now again. I checked the underside of leaves above where this shows and nothing there. I believe it is latex as i touched it and is sticky. It only shows in morning hours could be overnight that it happens. to me it seems like the fig or skin or rind itself is secreting it. Any one else observe this on other varieties??????? I'm almost sure I heard or read others mention but just can't find it Also in the 1st pic post 4 you can see some of the white speckling which showed last season also
Sal

A Ha !!!
I know where latex came from now.
Give me a short while and i post picture of what i did.

Edit: ok i got sharp pointy knife and poke skin and latex came out, i show again with knife in fig but had to take picture fast before knife fell out.
Sal i think some type of bug is stinging or biting into some of your figs.

Also the mark on top of the fig pictured happens when leaf rubs on fig and mars it over time.

I think Martin's right about some kind of bug is biting the figs.  I had this happen to figs that I had moved into the greenhouse.

I have noticed this before on some of my figs. It doesn't seem to hurt anything. The only bugs I've seen on my figs are the large black stink bugs that get all over my tomatoes. I've only seen them on ripe figs though.

Ok An insect is a good possibility as I do get an occasional wasp ants and some spiders inside of screen area. Now my question is why only certain varieties as I only notice on this one as best I can remember? Do they only bite at night as I only see in early morning hours? I will be out at 2am in my boxers and flash lite in hand the next few evenings and report back with pics and NO Not Me In my Boxers, Silly!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;o)
Martin I see yours are speckled also I don't really see specks in fignut pic maybe it has to do with the specks? Or figs with red pulp? Or aliens of a fig kind?
Figs are Fun

Gee i dont know what to say about those questions other than something attracts them to that particular fig tree for one reason or another. I know some fig trees give off scent when i walk around mine some i can get a whiff of some not so much if there attracted to that who knows.
But you did perk my curiosity when i first saw that post as i said to myself something had to cause that so off i went to yard with knife and camera in hand to experiment .

Martin I notice it when the figs have turned color and are starting to ripen. It could very well be and most likely is a insect maybe those small knats that get through the screen at times. Also the night time cooler temp might contribute to it oozing through the infected hole. Not sure if fignut pic is of a green fig which is in ripening stage or if it is still hard. Just gets you thinking I have my alarm set and flash lite ready. lol
Martin what fig is that you poked sure looks good with those specks. I bet it is a dark variety lol

fignut what variety is that I like that tight red eye

I've seen this latex weeping happen on some Celeste figs of mine from time to time.  It doesn't appear to harm the fig.

Went out early this morning and I think you guys are right, an insect bite I also noticed on my LSU Gold so not just dark or red pulp
