Black Yugoslavian

I knew I should have brought that tree into the house and put it next to a window before the $#*%^# rabbit/opossum/raccoon or whatever snagged my first of only 2 big beautiful fruits.
Sue

Sue, could you give us some background on your Black Yugoslavian?
I received a cutting from a fine member early this year simply labeled Yugoslavian. It rooted so well I planted it in ground. It is now 4 feet tall with a dozen figs that will shortly mature. The figs are large with a deep red eye. It is giving off vibes of a great cultivar...fast grower, no fmv etc.
I am in the process of building a bird netting cage to protect it from the fracking crows and mockingbirds that seem to be multiplying faster than fracking rabbits...but I digress.

I'll post some pictures of my Yugo and the bird cage when I get a chance.

That seems to be the only one in my yard that got taken too. Yugo theifes.
There are two yugos black and yellow. Black is big and sweet my yellow yugo aka yellow serbian has some buds forming we'll see.

Sue,any pictures with the Black Yugoslavien??

I would have had pictures in a few days if it hadn't been stolen...I do have a second large fruit developing but it has yet to turn color. When whatever creature took the ripening fruit it also knocked off a 3rd smaller fruit so now I’m down to 1 chance at tasting this variety this year. I think I might build a temp netted cage as I have a few unique trees developing fruit.

Since this is the first year it has fruited I really have no additional info on this variety except that fruit looked luscious and was larger than a Mission but not a large as a BT.

FMD, I'll look up the BY's history when I get home.

More later when I get home...

Frank
Thats the black. Growing really well for you there.

Yugo Blk is a big fig. Taste is not bad but it splits real bad with rain. The Yugo yellow is a small fig. Main crop is productive. Both trees in my zone are outdoor trees and there are grown in a pot. I do not give them any winter protection. The roots in the pot have grown into the ground. Likely my Yugo Blk will be given away because of splitting problems. For now, I am keeping the yellow mainly because of its productivity.

no problem, happy to help a local out.  i'd call 'sranje' on that picture just because it looks like a 4-year-old is holding it ;).  i have yet to find a huge fig that has a lot of flavor.

there are a lot of good figs from eastern Europe.  i walked through many varieties with a Bosnian coworker over the years.  i had a list around here somewhere, but ... i'll need to search the forum to find it.

LoL Jason. I think he is 6 years old. You are right most of big figs don`t test to good but i do like this one it was sweet and refreshing. This fig have sentimental value for me plus is good testing one.

Like Brown turky or Giant brown turky at my home=)
