Blanquette UPDATED

A very generous forum member sent me this earlier this year and it really took off. (Thanks again) Has a couple main crop figs starting to swell and turn. Will post other pics if it hangs on and I get to taste.

Mike, glad you are having success with your Blanquette. I pulled mine in its third year. I was dropping figs like no one's business.Mine originated from JF&E.

Picked the first Blanquette today and it was really yummy. Just a little sweet, kinda on the raspberry side with no crunch. At an 8 it will be a keeper.

Mike, how do you always seem to wait for the perfect time to pick them? It looks so delicious!

It took me a while to figure it out. When you think it is ready to pick, leave it alone for at least another day.

Mike you are just becoming Mr. Incredible with all these good looking pictures and figs.

Wow

goss

Looks lip smackin' good.  =)

@FMD, ya my tree drop almost the entire crop when figs were about ready to pick. Not sure whether the sudden change to cooler weather
for a week made it happened. Its back to about 90*F this week. May have to take similar actions.

Mike, I hope this tree is still among your collection.
Do you know if your source got if from UC Davis?

Rui, unfortunately this is one of the casualties of the past winter. My source obtained this variety from a forum member which
originally came from UCD.

Fortunately, I very generous forum member has sent me cuttings and they appear to be doing well.

Rui, I have updated the above post #10

Same here Mike, mine was pretty large. I tested it last winter and at the moment she looks pretty much a gonner. I'll leave it in the sun over the next 30 days and see what happens. I got fruit picks somewhere.

The reason I ask is because this is supposedly a light fig.
I got this (DFIC 70) from Davis, mostly because it's been identified as a similar (if not the same) as Quarteira, a variety Francisco speaks highly of.
In the varieties page, it's also a light fig.
Could it have been Barnisotte?
I should be growing both of these, I only got one cutting of Barnisotte, but since Davis cuttings are so big, I have two chances at it.
The Blanquette was more readily available, so I got 3 (=6) of that variety, I'll save you one, maybe even one of each variety if I get lucky with rooting.

Rui, all I can go by is what the person gave me. He obtained it from a reputable member also. I can tell you that the pic above did come from the
tree he gave me and was named Blanquette. LOL

I would love to have those cuttings if you have extra. Thank you

For the record I gave Mike the tree. Which I obtained from another member who obtained it from UCD.
Somehow there may be a mixup. Either this, or Jon posted pictures of the wrong fig.

I'm simply coming out to Mikes defense in the event that it is indeed the wrong tree and I will take full responsibility.
After all, he did get it from me and I will not point any fingers about its' origins.

If there is one thing I hate is to have a fig with my pedigree on it that's not true to its' name. It has happened before and I doubt it will be the last time.

Mike,
If indeed it is not true it's name I am vey sorry.

Hey Rafed, it really doesnt matter to me about the name. If it is Blanquette then so  be it. If not, the same. I can tell you
that it was one good tasting fig for its first year and it more than likely would have been an excellent fig had it survived the winter.

I can only hope that the cuttings that I have been given are the same and are as good.

Thanks Rafed for your input.

Rui, thats about all we  can say about that particular tree.

Mike, it's been reserved for you. My pleasure.

Rafed, I think I understand how you feel.
That being said, that was a darn good looking (and evidently delicious) fig.
I think the only thing you can be faulted with is generosity :)
