BLBrunswick

I thought brunswick, but now I dont think so.
The fig in the pic still has a few days to go. Does it look familiar to anyone? I think it is a different strain of Brunswick. Will post pics of the ripe fruit in a few days

I have no clue what they really are, but glad it is doing so well for you. Maybe someone else will be able to identify it. Definitely not Brunswick. Those figs are a nice size!! 

Will be nice to have some ripe figs pic. Can be  Brooklyn fig

I'm about 3 days away. Will post a photo. I don't think it's going to change in color any further just soften.

Doesn't look too far from Brunswick. Looks like an unhealthy Brunswick to me.

Doesn't Brunswick have an open eye and a more elongated shape? The leaves seem a little off too. 

Yes it dose but only when is begins to ripen.

Looking at first pic they look like Brunswick, eye is getting open as they ripe.

Yeah that looks similar but not identical. Hereman, where are you?? We need an ID 

Sometime is the climate that makes it have a smaller eye and not sour,other times it is a better strain,so I agree it is a strain of Brunswick,but ,I am not sure how it will do here in my climate.
My Brunswick in my climate was awful,so I am not going to trial it another time,one time it was enough for me.

Brunswick can range from oblate to turbinate in shape and may or may not have a neck. Tim's fruit is well within that range.


Not only that, but these differences in fruit shape, size, and characterstics can vary greatly from breba crop to main crop....  Leaves can also vary greatly depending on how rapid growth occurs, so it's not always a tell-tale indicator.

Well it's no wonder I find it difficult to ID figs, they are almost as confusing as people

People?  I find them more confusing than women. 

I had 20 figs on this tree. I air layered a branch that had about 8 of them. Who knows whether they make it.  ONLY 1 split while green. I took off 5 that were undersized so that they can focus on the remainder. That leaves me 14 shots at trying this one.  It's a strong grower even with FMV and if the figs are great then im a happy guy.  I'll now refer to this one as BLBrunswick. Im excited to eat figs off of this one.

Barry i am with you we really need DNA test done for each variety. There is so many same figs with different name.

It's your tree...I'm just keeping it company. If it tastes as good as it looks i'll get some cuttings out there. I already have some going out to a member on Wednesday. It's actually a pretty healthy tree these days. Signs of FMV? Yes, but 14 new branches and 20 figs says it's doing just fine! You can see how much healthier the new growth is by looking at the leaves of the last 2 pics. You can see the old ones show FMV...The new ones? Nice a clean.

Thanks to the_celt for the suggestion to try the high nitrogen fertilizer. It has worked miracles on my FMV trees.

Next season I will feed early with a high nitrogen and see how much it diminishes the apearance of fmv on my trees 

The color looks like my Brunswick but mine are more elongated instead of round.

It's a type of Brunswick, but looks like a different strain....And these have no necks to speak of.

I have more high nitrogen fertilizer if you need it Barry

Almost home.....This tree has been getting slammed with rain as of late. No splitting issues. Hope the taste is great.

Ok...So I got a little too excited and picked this one a bit early.  The bottom of the fig was dead ripe and the top could have used another day.  I cut it into quarters so I could eat the ripe bottoms to give it a true judgement of flavor

This is a vigorous grower, figs don't seem to split (we've had 3 days of rain here while this was ripening, and produced a good amount of figs for only having 3 branches when I acquired it.  

I just air layered a big chunk of it off so I will have 4 cuttings that are available(not green wood). Im happy to send them out in "2"s 

The taste was as sweet as if not more than a Celeste but with more fig flavor than a celeste is probably the best way to describe it. Also note that the middle has some red in it which I believe a traditional Brunswick does not have
