Blood meal?

Does anyone use blood meal to push for more green growth? Is it bad to use? I know too much can be bad by causing to to grow during the winter months or slowing root development in exchange to green growth.

Thank you for your service.

Hey GI, (I'm a retired USAF Major) Blood meal works fine. Try weekly feeds of fish emulsion.. You will be impressed!

Thank you both. I gave two of my trees some blood meal, but I haven't seen any growth in two weeks. Maybe I should pinch those figs off to help just in case.

Once I give the trees a few more watering to allow the blood meal to work it's way into the trees I will try the fish emulsion.

Dennis , I've been using fish emulsion also and am getting great growth on my trees , big and little ! Been cool and rainy here mostly so the fish emulsion seems to be doing a good job. What strength do you use?

Bloodmeal has more Potassium and Phosphate, excellent for developing fruits. Fish emulsions has more Nitrogen, which would develop more green growth.

I'm 100% sure that you have it backwards. Bloodmeal is high in Nitrogen, with fish emulsion being more balanced in NPK and also having micro nutrients.

I just got started into the lifestyle and I used Blood Meal as I saw it was nigh in Nitrogen. Had no clue about the fish emulsion might want to give that a shot, its been rainy and cool here on LI as someone stated so that may help.

Derp! You are 100% right, I confused bloodmeal for bonemeal! Sorry mate. There's 2 types of fish emulsion, 5-1-1 nitrogen high and 0-10-10 phosphate and potassium high.

I think I added too much to the soil which attracted flys which in turn laid eggs. Now I might change out the whole soil mixture. I dont believe the flys will harm the tree.
