Blue Province Fig from Australia

Hi guys today I pick up the last fig from the garden. I was waiting anxiously to see this fig. This fig is really a late fig, sweet taste and gorgeous inside. There is not enough picture of this variety in the net, so hopefully it will help others. I got this cuttings last year from  Graham. Hopefully I will have plenty figs in coming years...

Nice looking fig. Been wondering what it looks like for quite a while now and all I can say is I am impressed.
I just have to make sure I still have mine after this winter we had. Otherwise it'd be a tough loss.

Beautiful fig , thanks for sharing the pictures !

Does Australia have Wasps? That fig to my "untrained" eyes looks caprified... what you guys think?

Sad for you that the season is winding down but it looks like you're going out with a bang.  Hope your winter is cool enough to maintain dormancy but not so cold you have any damage.  I don't know what city you're in.

The rich fig pulp shown on above picture does not seem to contain many seeds.

On pollinated figs, seeds are a conspicuous element of their pulps, some large and much in evidence, other, very tiny and in great numbers.

There was previous talk in this forum about  F/Carica wasp  availability in Southern Australia...

The following page -

http://www.foodforest.com.au/fact-sheets/fruit-and-nut-trees/figs/

contains a lot of good information about figs in Australia, although somehow contradictory on a couple of lines dealing with caprificastion.

Nevertheless, the wasp was established in Australia in the early years of the XX century and extensive areas were planted with the Sarilop (Lob-Injir)variety - brought from Turkey for the production of dry figs.

Love the color

Francisco is a pond of fig wasp wisdom. I still dont get it. I have to have 'hands on' to grasp this concept.  thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.

Thanks Francisco, very informative links.

I came across this page and remembered this post.

Looks like just like the picture ofBlue Province fig but with longer neck...

aaron, they don't look a like at all to me...VdB and the BP look totally different to me.

Hi Grasa, thank you..
You not too far from that action (1 hr flight?) , now drawing near and near . 50 days from today +/- one or two days along that famous creek, fantastic timing for a full country 'hands on'  training and  investigation, taking lots of pictures and  witnessing one of the most subtle displays of Mother Nature.
cheers
Francisco

Pete, you are right, they each have their own unique characteristics, I just thought interiors were similar , no?

@Francisco, I totally see Grasa being settled in Los Angeles in near future , this is where she is destined to be! hahaha
