bonemeal in potted figs

I am going more organic with my figs this year. I have followed the directions for in ground trees. I am wondering if anybody has used it with potted figs with problems or without. The trees I am wanting to give the bonemeal to are in gal pots and have been happy in their pots for a few months. If I can use with potted figs how much should I use.

1/4 c per 5gal bucket - put it in the hole, then a several fistful of lime, cover with soil, top dress with lime, water. I normally do this twice a month.

Truthfully, I see no difference. I fertilize with dyna grow pro. I use hp promix w/ fungicide, and heavy on lime. Both work

awesome soil, good drainage, compost, age manure, lime, perlite, and sun = happy figs

Best of luck

1 Bale Sunshine mix #2 or ProMix
2 L Bone Meal - phosphorus source
1 L Blood Meal - nitrogen source
1 1/3 cups Epsom salts - magnesium source
3-4 cups dolomite lime -calcium source & pH buffering
1 tsp fritted trace elements
1/2 - 1 bag chicken manure (steer, mushroom, etc) - nitrogen & trace elements
Mix thoroughly, moisten, and let sit 1-2 weeks before use.

This is a string mix meant for vegetables in pots, you could probably cut the bone mean and blood meal in half but I have not tried it with figs so I don't know how it will preform with them and I would suggest instead of chicken manure sheep or horse or rabbit if you can get it.

I got rabbits. Everybody is out of stock on bloodmeal up here. I did get bonemeal though. And I never have used epsim salts or lime. But my ph is awsome. Eggshells yay.

If you get too much epsom salts on a plant it can burn, but if you wash it off with water it should be fine, but I wouldn't add too much to a pot anyways, it helps for magnesium and sulfur.

I finally got my worm poop today!
Has anyone tried casting tea? Do you know what else would be necessary after using it?

Any update to the bone meal and worming castings?

I just added some to my pots and wanted to know if it made a difference.

I haven't used worm castings but I did sprinkle a little bone meal on the soil and used my fingers to work it in. Plants look great.

Worm castings are fantastic but they are not the be all end all. You still have to add the fertilizer etc etc etc
I add castings to all my soil and it does make a big difference. One thing I noticed is the potted plants without castings get an occasional worm in them but the pots with castings draw them like flies. I'm always happy to see the right kind of worms working my soil for me.

I have been using both bone meal and worm castings in my potted figs from the get go.  The calcium in the bone meal helps the plant to drink up water and to make stronger limbs.  The worm castings aids in adding micro nutrients to the soil which the plants love.  I also have been using a 3.1.2 ratio fertilizer such as the MG all-purpose liquid fertilizer every two weeks when watering.  My fig trees are growing like weeds.
It is very important to use a soil that drains well too.  If I get a fig tree that comes in already potted, I just add the Bone Meal and Castings as a top dressing and work it into the soil as best as possible.  As you water it in, it will work its way down.

My vdb is growing a lot quicker than I thought. It started going crazy about a week after I added the bone meal. Its growing very nice and is about 2 foot tall. It was just a unrooted stick six months ago.

When gardening in veg's patch etc and I find an earth worm, I put it under the soil in a pot hoping it will add fresh poop to fertilize the pot soil. I don't know if the worm stays there and does not run out through the side holes.

not really into organic stuff.. i have seen too much "organic" stuff growing up in korea. i mean, my grand father was a big time land owner. there were ton of people working his land and using "organic" materials. after seeing them, i refused to eat certain vegetables. and don't talk to me about rice fields.. even now, i wash my rice at least 5 times and rinse another 5 times before even thinking about cooking them.

Pete
OK. Promise that I will not talk to you about "rice fields" and "naval traditions" and whatver else you decide.....

thanks :) i'm sure i'm feel better once i'm sobered up.

I had so much fun during my year tour in Korea.

one of my pipe major was field promoted to captain in USAF during the vietnam. he knew how to read map and they needed navigator on f-4 phantom. he said there's no place like thailand if you really want to have fun.. he told me number of his adventures in thailand during his r&r. but i guess ROK will do :) i hardly remember much about korea. just few found memories from childhood... lot of fighting with older kids since i was taller than most high school kids back then.
