Book idea

Okay. So I joked about it in another thread, but I'm serious.  I'm a writer and am already writing a short story about a fig (okay, about a woman and a fig tree, the fig isn't really the main character) but I've seen there's such amazing history, such adventure that goes into the cuttings you all have. What about a book?

You guys could send me stories of the figs you love - not even where it/they came from, but what was going on in your life at the time you found it (marriage, death, birth, bankruptcy, if it's interesting and interlocked with that fig, perfect!), or the history of the fig as you know it (the little old lady who carried in her dress from Italy, the US military fence you had to scale to get a cutting - ahem, lol). ANYTHING. Color, life, whatever - this could be a really cool book.

Pictures would be a huge plus, and a bit of background on the variety. I could help rewrite it all and try and find it a home. Then we could donate any proceeds (ha! most likely there'd be not much - not a statement on subject but on the book industry) to Jon and his endeavors.

What do you guys think? If you're interested, PM me and then write your story, take pictures this summer, give me details, recipes, anything. Wouldn't this be cool???

I have this, to me, rare strain of Sultane Fig, the owner had brought with him from Persia during his escape from the country and the Muslim extremists when he became a refugee to U.S. in 1980.
He cut the branch from his father's garden as a constant reminder of HOME and the bitter sweet change he had to go through with his life to continue as a free man in United States of America. The land of the free. I'll stop at this! (before I make every one cry)

Many members here will have stories for you.  Unfortunately I don't even have one, BUT I can encourage you!  I started a book a long time ago, but never finished it.  I am an artist, so it was mainly an instruction book on painting like the masters.  I had fun researching the lives of many of the old masters, and found recipes of food they would have served you for dinner looking at some of the old documents archived on line.  I've lost all that research due to a couple forced computer reformats, and not backing things up.

I like the idea of fig recipes included in your book!

Have fun writing it, and good luck to you!

there is Dominique's Fig tree story...I just received cuttings from Coop, he had included really nicely written story of Dominique's Fig Tree.

Dominick's fig (correct spelling)
Do a search on that name or on the name of coop951 - great story.
