This is my first Bornholm aka Nexoe ever. 
It's origin is from the island of Bornholm, Denmark in the baltic sea.
Brought there from the south hundreds of years ago.

It was very sweet and had a nice melony flavor.Had an open eye.

Inteteresting variety! I would assume this is early ripening and cold tolerant bring from Denmark? I wonder if anyone stateside has it, sounds good.

Thanks for posting, Christian.

Mine suffered a major setback over this past winter but recovering. Good to know it is a keeper.

Very interesting fig and every description I like except for the open eye is not good for a hot rainy humid area, like where I live. It does sound like a wonderful fig.

Kelby: You are right, very cold hardy (although Bornholm doesn't get to cold surrounded by the ocean) and it does well in a short growing season. it is already overseas, Rafed for example ownes this variety.


Art:   As far as i heard our friend Phil will get his hands on Bornholm this fall. I am sure it will peform very good in Northern Ohio.


Rafed: You are very welcome. Hope yours will recover and give you some great figs in the future.


waynea: You are probably right. In my place around ripening time when the eye starts to open up it doesn't rain too much.


Pete: I heard English BT might be the same as Bayernfeige Violetta. Nexoe/Bornholm grows very shrubby and the leaves are much smaller compared to the BT-type varieties i have seen.

This is very nice fig. Congratulations !
It ripens well in time for comparison with other similars from the south.
I am curious now!
Do you give it a special place on your yard ? near a particularly colored and protected wall ?

Thanks Christian! This ones going on the to get list, especially since my great grandparents hail from there. Didn't think I'd ever hear of any figs from Denmark!

Thanks a lot my friend. Yes, i grow all my figs on my southfacing backyard patio.
It is made of red stone which stores the heat from the sun...it is protected from the wind by walls at the sides.


Kelby, 

I cross my fingers you'll be able to obtain that varitety from the land of your great grandparents. 
I believe it will do fine in Pennsylvania, Z6b
