bound to happen sooner or later..

so i was checking on my Kathleen's Black cuttings the other day. i'm rooting them for my son's science project. i have one that's growing well in 10 gal, so i was going to put one in the ground and give some to friends.

noticed that one of the cutting in the cup looked rather odd. didn't pay much attention to it till yesterday.

i stuck the cutting in the cup upside down... not intentionally. the roots are pushing out, but the bud is opening towards the soil mix. it would be interesting to see what happens to that one. no, i'm not going to pull it out to fix the issue :)

Pete, where are the pictures?  if you are not correcting it, please post.
It happens to all of us.. that is why I cut a slant on the upper portion, so people who receive my cuttings know what is top... I have a hard time telling up and down apart.

I ordered some salmon berries online, and received 2 plants. Both of  them had cute leaves and a skiny stem (previously the cutting from the mom bush) I transplanted them with their roots in the soil, and did not cut off the skinny stem... Would you believe the skinny stem is leafing now and obviously the leaves are upside down. the rooting was done by 'layering' the tips'.  I am not changing.. will monitor this upsidedown growth and see what happens.

grasa, i need to find some good pix editing software. picasa, which i have been using, has changed the edit function and i can't do what i used to. i'll post more pix when i find something i like :)

Bullet, in the interim, use the e-mail function in Picassa to downsize your photos.  Just mail a copy to yourself and then save the e-mailed copy in a folder within Picassa. (Assuming that was the issue). Easy to upload from there (and small enough)
.

Been there, done that too!
But I did correct my error(s).

I am with you here; interesting to see what happens....

My guess is that the new green shoot will naturally correct
itself and grow happily upwards as though nothing happened.

I have seen at least one picture of a little wild fig tree growing
(downwards) from the inside-top of an archway structure.

There are also 'upside-down' hanging green plastic pots
for growing fruit producing tomatoes available on the market.

Remember; always stick a twig in rooting soil with the (node) bud above the leaf-scar...

marianna, i can still crop and edit the size of the pix in the picasa.. but they took away watermark function. i really liked their "bleeding cowboy" font.. need some light weight sotware that will do watermark and simple edit. photo enhancement funtion does come handy when i take pix in low light too.

it's rather neat.. the branch is coming our and bending toward the sun. the leaf is twisting to face the right way up. the cutting below is putting out good number of roots. so i would imagine, the branch at initial point will twist to right itself and the rest will be just like the other cuttings.

Gorgi, your picture of the upright position is excellent for newbies or others passing by. You should create a posting with that in the subject line, so others can learn.. it took me several mistakes to figure this up and down business. And to make matters confusing, now, rooting Kiwi cuttings, they are totally the opposite of Figs...

gorgi-

Perfect!

With that one photo, there can be no way anyone could plant a cutting the "wrong" way.  A picture is  worth a thousand words.
