BOURJASSOTTE GRIS

BOURJASSOTTE GRIS

Anyone have any info on this?

Availability, culture, synonyms?

Thanks as usual!

I have one, and has not fruited.

I thought I read somewhere that this variant seems to have a habit of dropping figs. Hope someone can verify this.

I have one growing in the ground. It is a medium sized LATE season dark brown fig with very good flavor.  The figs that I have eaten from my tree have a strong pronounced strawberry flavor to them.....more so than any other fig I have ever eaten.  I did not experience the fruit drop that others have reported.......maybe it's because my tree is growing in the ground and not grown in a pot. It does want to be a large tree.

Thanks guys!

Its definitely on my wish list.  My list is fairly short these days.  It has a long history in the horticulture of England and for some reason that "scene" has always intrigued me.

I understand that Barnisotte maybe the black version of this fig with altered spelling as is often the case with ficus.

I have a 4-5 year in ground B.G. from CRFG Prusch Farm fig collection in San Jose.

It is a slower growing tree, didn't produce more than a few ripe fruits the 1st couple of years, and dropped a bunch of fruit, but this year it started ripening many more.
The fruit is med size green - violet. Deep rose red flesh that is very rich.  Medium skin texture. It is my favorite or maybe 2nd favorite tree.
I didn't expect it to do much this summer since California basically didn't have a summer and it did fruit late, starting in Sept. but produced really spectacular fruit until early Nov. and then not that bad until mid Nov.

Thanks for the info Gloria.

Thanks everyone for all the info.

Maybe I can work out a deal for a cutting of the BG.

The BG has a history of being grown under glass, which adds to eagerness to attain this variety.  In due time I suppose...
