Bourjosotte Gris Update

Not sure if you remember, but this tree was pretty small when it went in ground early this year.  One of it's leaves turned black, and you all told me to cut the branch, but I did strip the bad leaves and dosed it pretty good with a few applications of Miracle grow.

It has no figs because it's putting all it's energy into growth.  It's canes (that's grapevine talk) aka trunks are now 1/2" thick and just reaching up to the sky quickly.  It's up on our highest hill here, which we dub "Rocky Top," and it is now very green and happy!  I'm actually amazed.  I thought it was kind of a dwarf type tree, but no way!  This is going to be a big'un!!

I hope it puts figs on because they have a reputation for being really tasty, but I'd rather let this be the year it digs in and grows.

Don't give up on a tree that looks a little sick.  Just treat it nicely and it will repay you as long as you protect it from gophers and in pots (fungus gnats)........  another chapter in my story.

Pictures please.....

I KNEW that question would come up.

Here is how it looked early this year:    And a close up of the sick leaf: Sick on one limb.jpg

You can see at first she had zero mulch, and now she does.

nice

Suzi, is this the one you treaded with Cinnamon Tea also to encourage Leafing?

look like it's doing great BTW.

Yes!  I forgot about the Cinnamon tea!  I did everything you guys suggested, and I can't attribute one cure more weight than another, but it all together brought that dying tree back to life!  It doesn't look like it will stay small.  I've seen that same thick branch growth on LSU Gold, Paradiso, and Verte!  Even also on my unknown.  Before you know it, it will crown that huge pot behind it.  The pot is there to shade it from hot afternoon sun, but the sun tricks ya.  It moves around.  The tree gets no shade now.

The pot will stay.  It weighs 100 lbs.  I'm thinking of filling it with potting soil and compost, and planting tomatoes and herbs in it.  Not many critters can climb that slippery thing!

Another cure for the fig doctor.

As coincidence would have it I just planted that variety today, hope it grows that well.

It has a reputation for tasting more like strawberry than a strawberry.  I hope this is true. Good luck with yours.  This one is on a growth spurt!  It is in ground you know.
