branca figo info

Can anybody give me info on the branca figo? I was looking for figs that will do well in southeast Ga, I see it has a closed eye. Is both the breba and main crop good? Can it take the heat and humity,( I'm 40 miles inland)? I lived on Mission Beach just north of Point Loma and I know the conditions are totaly diffrent than where I live now.

If you mean Fico Branca,  It is a Portuguese variety grown for about 50 years in Point Loma area of San Diego, and discovered last year.. See Figs 4 Fun and  Sue's Figs.

I looked at the two links but I didn't see all the info I was looking for, I did google it but most of the stuff I found was not in english..

Suppose to be a good variety. At the moment, not much information is available as it is a newly discovered variety last year. Some members have this variant for trials and I believe more info will come out in 2 yrs time. Meantime, It is a good grower for me as a new variety that I started  from cuttings this year.

O so the stuff I got when I googled it was for a diffrent fig...

Grant,

What website were you looking at? If you are referring to the Figo Branca from the Madeira Islands found last year, it does have a closed eye. The breba is significantly larger than the main crop fig but not as tasty. This is the usual case with breba.

This is an early fig, end of June, and bares into Oct/Nov.

Try using google translate for the websites you find that are not in English. It does a fair job at translating...enough so you understand what is going on.

Here's a picture of a luscious figo Branca taken last Oct when JD was in town.
