Breaking Dormancy

Hi Guys,

I am relatively new to Figs.  What should I do with the new (white) growth?  Will they be fine if I move them outside?

Thanks

:)
I'm from Vaughan.
it should be fine. there is no light in the room, and thus the new growth is white.
also it seems your garage? temperature is quite high, my trees in the garage only have buds.

how old is the tree?  2-3 years?

Dear friend, My fig trees leaf out 1 month ago, I moved them outside, At night , temperature down to 36F, all leaves dead, I moved them inside and it recovered with more leaves in 3 weeks, I moved it outside last week,  it was a suddenly temperature drop toto 36F, all leaves dead again, Now I moved it inside for few more weeks, If you move your fig trees outside, keep close eye on night temperature.

wait until night temperature goes stable, at least above 5C degree to move outside!
Moving outside and inside is a stress testing for both the fig and yourself.

thank you very much for the reminder.

I am newbie for fig, I want to move them out ASAP, so it can grow faster. I think that I am at frost valley( colder) in my area, local nursery put their fig trees outside already on bark mulch ground.
Anyway, I order a cheapo big round temperature meter, I will put it outside so I can see it far away.

As mentioned it is way too early to move the outside unless you are willing to do the fig shuffle in and out of a warm garage most nights.
Also beware the temperature forecasts are not always accurate.  I have seen forecasts of 5C at night and it has gone below freezing.

But if you have a nice sunny porch with a heater (or similar) it is an opportunity to give them a nice head start and get ripe figs earlier:)

I got exact thing going on my hardy chicago trees woke up and are pushing new growth same as yours, and a few breba figs. I was tempted to put them I'm the garage but I think I'm going to wait a bit. Or maybe put them under a grow light
