BREBA INFERIORITY....WHY?

Some fig varieties produce a breba crop, and it is almost always inferior in taste when compared to a properly ripened main crop.  Why is this so?  Is there no way to get superior, well-ripened, breba from most varieties?  Is this genetic, or cultural?

Also, why do breba usually grow so much larger than main-crop figs?

(I'm referring to fig varieties that make two crops, not a breba-only variety).

Thanks for any speculations.

Frank

maybe 'cause they develope in less than ideal weather condition? maybe generic since some figs are breba only? not sure.. but why ask why? try bud light.. i mean.. try quality beer. life is too short of cheap beers.. :)

Speculation on size would be because the breba crop is far fewer figs and so the tree pumps more energy into those. Speculation on taste was touched on in another thread, cooler temps. I also think it has something to do with less foliage as many breba crops seem to form before the tree is fully leafed out, that might effect sugar production.

Because Breba figs are female Flower figs that the tree intend to make seeds, later.
If not pollinated they are not complete so that is why they do not develop enough sugar in them.
When pollinated ,then the same breba Flower figs are way much better tasting.
The Main crop are mule and they do not need pollination,so they develop the Flavor and sugar just for the enjoyment of the people that took care of the mother plant.
Fig tree is the only fruit tree that collaborate with people and will thrive only when in a relationship of interdependence with the Grower ,so the main crop is the gift the plant give the grower for taking care of the plant.
This is true at least for Common figs that have 2 crops ,a breba and a main crop.
I would like to note that San Pedro fig fruits are also female Breba and also the same thing happen:
The pollinated fruits are sweeter and more flavorful than the un pollinated fruits, but all are persistent,on Breba crop.
It makes Females  flowers again in the main crop, but this time if not pollinated they just Fall out,and the ones that persist(a few),are tasting like cardboard.
As to why they are bigger:It is again because they are Flower, not fruits, that is why they are larger.
By the way:Show me any other  edible Flower that taste better than a Breba Mission fig properly ripe.

What a romantic!

Thanks for the answers....genetic, but mostly biologic reasons.

Now I know the rest of the story.
