I wish I could build greenhouse by my house that would solve some issues :)

Remis,

With the beautiful stairways that you can build, a greenhouse would be no problem for you! Go for it.

-Little John

My parents lives in Lithuania .A few years before me coming here my parents moved from small city to a country they have about 50 acres of land so I helped them to build nice big greenhouse before I left .
Unfortunately here in Illinois in my subdivision they have some weird regulations they don`t allow to build a shed or greenhouse.
But it`s ok I can still grow some fruit trees like Apple, pear, peach,Cherry and I also have little garden to grow tomatoes, peas, strawberries, some herbs etc,.

Remis,

Build a sun room, or an enclosed porch or a solarium, or whatever, and attach it to your house. They can't all be forbidden. See Florian

Hi Remis,
thats too bad. Here i can have greenhouse and shed. The structure must be a certain distance from property line if on a cement slab, anything over 144 square feet is TAXED , when the guy came around measureing everything he new my shed was 14x10 just under the taxable limit but had fun with my 20x30 cement patio, i wanted to let Butch out in the yard my big dog.
Permits from town are a must now for anything in our unicorporated area which when i first moved here was not the case 20 years ago.
I planted all the trees you see on my property and even the parkways (not my property). Town now says to plant on parkway you have to have a permit also which i can understand even though i maintain the grass there. Any addition to hom of course requires a archetiectual drawing and must follow strict codes which i can understand.
I can no longer burn in my can as last fall someone called the fire department on me , i always burned fig trees or any trim from my tree never any type of garbage. Should have saw my surprise when the big firetruck and fire ambulance pulled up in front of my house and knocked on my door with a clipboard , i had to sign some sort of paper work that i could not read .
Our county permits leaf burning and such but the town eveidently passed an ordinance banning such practices recently. They said you need a permit and even the farmers out here as well need one to burn anything.
Taxes go up services go down and hopefully in 5 to 7 years we sell our home, it will hurt as all the trees i planted and watched grow over the years i will never see anymore, oaks , elms and such.
But warmer weather climate will help me forget all that.
Remis when weather breaks and trees leaf out i look forward to getting togehther again .
Best Health

Yeah Martin you won`t miss your Oak Trees ,when you`ll have all those  palms, figs, oranges, avocados, bananas etc,.
But one thing for sure you will miss those Cold snowy Winters and shoveling snow from four driveway :)
One of my friends moved from Chicago to Santa Rosa CA two years ago and he`s not going back here for sure.                                                        Hoping someday to live in CA I`m sure I would find some work in there too.
I don`t it would be to hard to talk my wife into moving to CA ,we was there on our "honeymoon" and we loved that place !

Remis i always wanted to drive to California for a nice road trip as i love to get on the road and just drive.
When i was young it was a dream trip never made instead some friends and i drove in several cars to Florida.
The Misses and i went to Flroda many times to visit my dad when he was alive and some family of hers in Miami.
She is in love with Florida although not Miami and not California oh well , so so far Florida seems to be the destination but as many of us men know a womans mind can change with the passing of time.
Hey for you woman out there thats not a bash.  ; )

Here are new pics of my figs. Today they enjoying beautiful weather outside :)

Jason correct me if I'm wrong but would those be considered main crop since that is new growth

Sal

I had the same thought, and agreed with your assessment.  That's why I chose the word "figlets" instead of "breba" ;)  I finally found my other post about it over here.

It dawned on me afterwards to read the title again, and saw "breba" in it, I just didn't feel like removing the picture because I know so many folks like to look at pictures and stuff.  I opted to leave it be.

Jason no don't remove pic I'm still in a learning stage which will continue the rest of my life time if I'm so blessed. lol I asked as a real question and nothing else
Sal

Here are a few pictures of breba on my trees.

This one is a Hollier, it was started from a cutting in Feb. 2009.

These is of my LSU Gold (not), sorry but some are a little fuzzy. I'm keeping close tabs on this one this year and hope someone can help me identify it.

Sal, of course no offense, I was agreeing! Sometimes words we choose (ok, *I choose) on the internet convey the wrong meaning or tone.

Ok, I finally broke down and took photos of one of the three or four upward branches left on my BT after pruning and shipping out cuttings to folks.

This is what all of them are looking like since they started leafing out 10-12 days ago.  I have approximately 25-30 figs waiting on me.
