If Breba are that rare, why do I have them?  Photo taken last July.

It had a main crop that ripened in Sept/Oct.

Maybe heat has something to do with that.

Are they any good?  I mean some brebas I'm told are tasty and others should be removed, which class does Verte belong to?

Thanks!

Very good!  It was my first year for fruit from the tree, and I let them get a little yellow, thinking that made them ripe.  Well, when picked green, they are juicy, jammy and delicious, but let them go yellow, a little on the dry side.  Now I know!

very nice fig!

Yea it could be the different climate. My Green Ischia (Strawberry Verte) I believe had some small breba that just fell off. So maybe Jon is saying that the breba is not really going to ripen into a first class tasting piece of fruit.

Interesting Armando!  I just walked out and checked and they all look fine.   Some are still a little nubby, but others are getting the long neck and a little swell.  I'll watch and see if some fall off.  Last year the tree never went dormant at all.  It was little, and protected, but this year it has grown by leaps, and it did go dormant.  Maybe that is what Jon meant.  The Breba crop last year ripened in July.  It might depend on the warmth of this spring.

Supposed to rain tomorrow and Sunday, so we are planting jalapenos and tomatoes to get them a good start.

Mine too. We'll see how they turn out. Virtually no winter this yr so I have plenty of brebas on this tree starting to form. I never had any on this one before. I have large marble sized figs already on a few trees such as LSU purple.

Jon varietal pages do not connect Vert and Strawberry Vert.

I have Green Ischia, Vert and just rooted the Vert. I would not mind if they are the same then I will have fewer plants to care for by just keeping one of these. But it will take a couple of years to decide until my Strawberry Vert starts fruiting.

I do get brebas on my Verte -- not many but not at all rare. Not many brebas is likely a direct result of the
swings in spring time day and night time temperatures. Hence many brebas are aborted.

Suzi, they look beautiful! Congrats. It is still pretty chilly here in north Georgia. I am anxiously awaiting spring so I may move some figs from containers into the ground.
