Breba ripening info

OK my brebas are done. This was an excellent year (2014) and almost all of these brebas were good - if not very good. My main crop started to ripen immediately after these. Good timing.

Anyway:
Obviously first there is the date, then the variety's name, and then I took averages of the fig weights and disregarded any that were very much bigger or smaller. If I had more then one example of the tree I put "different tree".

The plants that gave me brebas this year were not the same as the ones from last year. My brebas (with the exception of Adriatic JH) last year were not good at all compared to my 2014 brebas which were very good. I was pleasantly surprised and glad I did not pinch them off.

I did not do a chart of last year's brebas (I did do my main crop figs) and am not going to go back and try and piece one together. I will do another chart of this year's main crop (so far only Florea, BT, Lemon and RdB have ripened).

IMO, Only two pieces of missing info, whether they were potted (or in-ground) and the date that they started to leaf out (when your growing season started) ; )

Thank you for the helpful info. Two comments: I noticed that where you have two of the same variety, and a later date on the second breba, it was also significantly heavier than the first breba. Second question: I was under the impression that all of the Col de Dames were unifera, ie main crop only. Was the Col de Dame breba an anomaly or do you find it will consistently put out at least a small amount of brebas?

Like I said, My impression. I try not to be too opinionated, and my CdD plants are first year, so no personal experience to share. This is the tag from Mr. Baud, which is also in his book. It states that they are main crop only (unifere in French).

Nice information. BTW, all of Michael's figs are in containers.

There was a thread on RdB brebas a couple months ago and it is also considered a unifera variety.  I got a couple off of my RdB as well.  I think it just illustrates that there is very often exceptions to these rules, depending on how the tree is overwintered etc.

Rafael, I'm not sure what the full story is. I do know back a few years ago Herman2 said he had a CdD with brebas. I haven't actually done any work to look stuff up but living things do seem to push on the rule books. These were the first CdD brebas I ever got and I have a fair number of CdD trees. I'd like more but as good as they were the main crop is better. This tree is loaded with figs this year and I couldn't be more happy with it.

Pete - all in pots and kept in garage in winter so any info about length to harvest would seem skewed.

Baud has also stated in some years, when conditions are favorable, col de dama's maybe produce some brebas which often fall off.

Hate to say so but I have been gobbling up figs representing what will be a wonderful year for both pigging out and also experiencing varieties I have yet to try. Of my 200+ varieties there are over 100 I have not tried and this year I will put a big dent in that number.

It's been a lot of work and a long time coming and I'm very excited.

I just had a RdB I picked while taking the dog out. Ronde de Bordeaux has got to be close to the best fig in existence. I have 3 large ones and they are cold hardy, early and about as flavorful as they come. And beautiful on top of all of that. At this point - if I were forced to pick just one tree forever it would be the RdB. Everyone needs one. 

Geeez. Good lord - I left off some varieties, Duh. If interested I added them above.
