Brebas?

Last week, when I went to prune the UNK Italian AS tree in Healdsburg, I was surprised to see the fig tree next door, loaded with figs. I had taken a photo of it last summer, because it had really nice, big leaves. The owner said he had gotten it years ago from a nursery, but couldn't remember the name. My question is, do you think that these were a late crop set last year, or a very early breba crop. Late January seems too early to have brebas this big to me. Expert opinion needed. Hi Gary,
I'm no expert but here's my analogy regarding this matter.
If these were main crop...or, lets put it this way... If these were NOT Breba crop, where would the Breba crop grow?
Breba crop grows on Old Wood. Continued growth will be the New Wood, which will give Main crop.
Do we all agree on this thought? :)
Remember my Armenian which I thought had 3rd crop...? 3rd Crop...? what to do.

Gary,

It's too early for brebas to be that 'fat'
IMO, this is a nice, clean and healthy Caprifig, sporting a great crop of Mamme figs .
Just need, for confirmation, your help,  to pick up one well developed fruit, cut it all around skin+flesh only, separate those halves and show a picture with detail of what the inside looks like...

If my assumptions are correct it mus be packed with galls each one growing an insect.

Hi figgary,
I have another explanation: that fig tree is owned by a lazy gardener :)
Let's suppose that tree makes edible fruits since it came from a nursery.
The tree is not kept at a manageable size so cleaning it up is impossible without a ladder.
Mine are kept smaller, and I do rub the unripe figs that stay on the tree after it goes dormant.
Those figs are nests for mold and pests, mainly insects and removing them is advisable .

The ribs I see on those figs are typical for maincrop figs that were left on the tree .
Is that tree in Zone9 ? I'm surprised to see it dormant with not even one stubborn leaf.

Hey Gary and friends! I agree with Jdsfrance . They look like leftover figs from last season. I had some left on one of my trees and looked identical . For a moment I thought about letting them stay on till this coming season but I changed my mind and pulled them off! :(. Nothing but extra weight.
