Brebas or main?

  • jtp

I started rearranging the potted figs today and found a load of little figlets forming. A nice surprise. My plants have a headstart on those of my more Northern friends, but I was wondering could these still be brebas or are they the main crop forming? Among those showing figs are Peter's Honey, Black Greek, 152-4s, Beer's Black and others.

Figs forming on the old branchs, are your breba crop. Anything on new branches are the main crop.

Navid.

If it is growing above a leaf it is main crop.

Looks like I have a mix of brebas and main among my trees. I know the Peter's Honey had figs when it came out of the garage, but those fell off. Now, it has a nice flush of new ones. Beer's Black retained its figs from winter (brebas). A lot of my trees are just starting to get buds, so I guess those are main, as it is almost all new growth. Regardless, it is shaping up to be a good season. I appreciate the information. Thank you.

If there are figs left over from last year those aren't brebas and they usually don't ripen.  Brebas are new figs that grow this year on last year's wood.
