brebas, should i pull them off

hi friends,
i have a potted negronne with nice looking brebas
also my italian late maturing celentano has about 17 brebas.
i've heard that by sacrificing brebas the main crop maturity
can be fastened by three or four weeks.
the cilentano has beautiful brebas but never matures figs on
the current years growth and is late maturing what do you think?

I know that Herman has advocated doing it - but a late maturing variety might need more time than you would gain. Also, the most benefit is probably achieved by removing them just as they form, not just as they are nearing ripeness. The point, as I understood it, was to divert energy from breba figs to main figs.

Hi Jon:Yes That is the meaning of eliminating BREBA.
It has to be done as soon as they can be noticed, for us northerners ,in order to gain more time for second crop to ripe.
And your point is valid.
Some cultivars Might ,still not have enough time if they require a long hot season,(as I herd Panache does)

So herman,
do you do that with Hardy chicago although it's an early ripening variety as well?

To Bass:No I do not do it on Hardy Chicago, because it is in the ground, and it is not protected in the winter,so it does not have any Breba.
It never had more than a couple of breba wich usually are poor quality, and most of the time fall out before ripe.
This year i took breba off on:Atreano,Black Jack,English Brn.Turkey,Lsu Gold,Stela,Fortissi Brn. fig,Conadria,278/128,Blue Celeste, and any other fig except Marseilles vs Black.
M vs Black, have very high quality breba, and is early enough to mature both crops. But like most other figs it only have a few Breba,on it.
