Bright Red Fig.

Hey Nick
Did you ever buy that plant?

Hey Dan,

Quote:
Ruby Red colored figs are not very common.

Olga's 'Blue Giant' looks pretty close to that colour to me. Maybe more common than you thought?

Nope never brought it.

Went back a couple of days later, guy would not go under $ 175.00 .
The Red fig was gone,
and to top it off, he said with a grin that he ate it. :(
No other figs were riping, yet and he said if I kept coming back and wasting his time, he would raise the price.
Very rude..
I have not been back.
Still think about that red fig....

Nick.

Hi Nick,
you type this
he said if I kept coming back and wasting his time, he would raise the price.

Very rude..

In my opinion that was not buisness like and very very rude.

But being treated like that i may have come down to his level and showed him a picture of a fig leaves and ask would you like to buy a fig plant with these type of leaves "as sir i think its even less common than yours and may attract more buisness your way if you were not so ignorant."

Nick, I would not have given him my business. He does not sound like a 'plant person'--and was only interested in the almighty dollar! Whatta jerk!

Who needs a red fig anyway!! LOL  That is a lot of money. I see why you hesitated and obviously I wouldn't want to do business with a guy like that either.

I would love to be a fly on the wall and see who buys it.

I just can't buy that this guy has a Kadota ( maybe Black like Dan I believe suggested). It's a rare fig and unless your one of the nuts here, you probably would have no clue. So I can't see how this person has any idea of what he has.

But when Nick said it was expensive, I had no idea it was THAT expensive!

Hearing about it is very tempting to take a 4 hour trip.

Nick,

I really do appreciate your dilemma.........

Dominick,

Yes, indeed I do have a Black Kadota that came from a very reputable local wholesale nursery.......Saxon Becnel. It definitely is not a mislabled tree. I have "one" fig on the tree and hopefully I can get a better ID on it. The Becnel family has introduced some very good local heirloom figs (Smith, Native Black, and Black Italian) into the retail trade.....hopefully, this Black Kadota is another good fig. Time will tell........

Funny thing is the man placed no extra  value on the Bright red Fig.

he's a small florist that sells a couple of figs, usually Black Mission or Brown turkey.
He places them in front of the store like attention getter's
All the figs he sells he prices at 175.00 - 200.00
He could not care less if the fig color was Red, Black or Pink.
Just the fact it had a ripening fig was enough for him.
If the man was not so mean and rude, and the tree was not in my opinion so
hideous looking ( it really looked  like a large alien crab : really, really low to the soil and
spider like ) I would have paid the money.
I keep walking by- without stopping- to see if any other figs ripen bright red...

Nick.

It sounds like they aren't that large as well.

On top of that he's selling them ALL for that amount- Only in NY. LOL

WOW $175.00 for a three gal BT or mission I charge  my clients $30.00 for 3 gal. LSU Purple, LSU Gold, Alma, etc. and that is installed with soil amendments and fertilized. I could never bring myself to plant a BT for someone much less charge that kind of money

probably been looking at ebay and doesn't know what's what.

A nice flower arrangement would cost about the same, I know someone who grows peonies to sell on the market, he also sells Bull Thistle from his field for $1.50 a stem wholesale, guess where? Only in NYC!

If you really want it then why not try and trade one of your duplicates? The guy is probably not going to go for it but i for one think he deserves to be bothered a little more.

Take the $175.00 and buy cuttings from members this fall and you'll forget all about the one that was not to be.

That price is F''n outrageous,
and for $175 he wouldn't let you taste the fig first. ????!!!!

Go show him your panachee. Tell him you will sell it to him for $250, or consider a trade for the supposed Kadota and a floral arrangement.
