The progression of Bronx White from when I first noticed a figlet.  I accidentally picked this one too early, maybe 2-3 days early.  I was trying to remove the Organza bag so I can see if it was drooping but knocked the fig off instead. There was some latex from the stem of the fig. As far as taste, it was barely sweet and very "figgy/earthy" tasting with a lot of crunch from the seeds. Definitely needed those last few days.

Lesson to share: Do NOT attempt to remove a tightly tied organza bag from a fig that you've been watching for the past 2 and a half months :/

All is not lost though, there's another fig thats starting the ripening stages already in an Organza bag and will stay that way until its so droopy that it falls with the slightest touch. I'll update probably next Tuesday/Wednesday if its ready :)

Looks real good. Thanks for sharing.

It looks a lot like my white fig.
If you can leave it on until the fig really droops it should start pushing honey and be very sweet.

Pino, as I recall, the original thread started last year when this unknown was first introduced said it was an extremely sweet and honey tasting fig.  I should have another one that will be fully ripe early part of next week. I'll definitely not fiddle around with it until then :)  I'll post an updated photo.

Maybe a few more days will make the difference, I like the small eye, please give us an update, I'm interested.

If this is jimmychao's fig, then it was one of my best off the frankenfig this year.  Did great in south Louisiana.  I think my greens generally did better because our birds don't know they're ripe!

David,
Thanks for sharing the pictures and info.

That fig looks to be an Italian Honey aka White Marseilles.
I found 3 different cultivars growing in 4 different locations in The Bronx.
They were the sweetest figs that I tasted last year.

Good Luck with the next figs.

brackishfigger that is the one from jimmychao I received cuttings from him back when he was giving them away and man did they root easy.  I cut most of the cuttings in half and don't think I lost any of them.  Made lot's of plants.

David your plant is looking real good.  I had a similiar experience had one almost ripe that I was watching plus 3 on Florea I had not had a problem with birds this year but they found them wiped them all out one morning including the green one from Bronx White.  Be sure and let us know about the taste as it sounds like yours may be ahead of mine.  Mine has to much shade not enough sun.

And by the way thanks for sharing.

Nice and productive tree. Thanks for sharing.

Best,
Tam

Thanks for sharing, I've got 2 on my plant I'm waiting on. Vigorous growers!

Nice series of pictures, thanks for sharing. Too bad it got knocked off before you wanted if off. Another test is gently squeeze, for my preference they should feel soft and like they would be really easy to squish. Like a bean bag.

Thanks for everyone's advice. I finally picked this one. it was very very very soft and drooping straight down. And no latex from the stem this time :)

This second fig was smaller than the original and had dark spots, I think in past posts people call it sugar spots.

The eye was tiny/closed unlike the first fig.

The taste was much sweeter than the first, the extra days really did help it. It tastes like mild honey and was sweet but not as sweet as my Celeste. If I closed my eyes it reminded me somewhat of what Lyndhurst white tasted like when I was at Mikes (NewnanDawg) place but not as rich nor creamy. It also had a slight seed crunch. I can't give it a rating because I just don't have too much experience in eating figs so I really don't have much to compare it to.

This was started 5/10/13 by Goss so its still young.  We'll see how it does next year :)
