Brooklyn "Hand Grenade"

Thanks to Angelo for sharing this variety. This is my first season to taste this fig. It does not appear to be Brunswick, which several members thought in the past. It is a very flavorful, meaty fig. Productive for a young tree, it is resistant to FMV and the figs do not split or sour with the daily rains we've had in Albuquerque lately. I would like to hear from anyone else growing this fig. It is a keeper for sure.

Nice to know it is working for you, and a nice sized fig is always nice ;)

Leon, it sure looks a lot like my unknown (my source called it "Mildenhall") which everyone agreed was a strain of Brunswick:

I decided to get rid of this unknown because of its tendency to split in rainy/humid weather and then draw huge numbers of ants.  It was a tasty fig though.  Are you growing Brunswick as well so that you can compare your Brooklyn fig to it?

Steve, he did mention that it's been raining and the figs didn't split.  That's proof it's not a Brunswick   :)

As you saw, a real Brunswick will split in high humidity, let alone rain.

Well, maybe it is related to the Lebanese fig Pooya found:

This is another fig that looks a lot (and tastes a lot) like Brunswick but can handle the rain really well.  Anyway, the Brooklyn fig looks like a winner

Leon, Do you do magic tricks?  Your hands look designed for magic.

Hi, Leon,

It's a great looking fig! I have one that is loaded with figs, but none are ripe yet. Ed said it produces one of the best tasting brebas he's had. Thank you Angelo for sharing it with us!
Vito

rcantor- Yes, after I post the pics I make the figs disappear. LOL!
