Brooklyn white

Merry Christmas to all, this site is completely greater than the sum of its parts, although it's parts are all individually amazing. I just lost a Brooklyn white cutting for the third time and am completely frustrated. I'd like to purchase a tree of this specimen. Anyone with the Bass variety who has and would like to sell one, I'd greatly appreciate it. Doesn't need to be big just well rooted thanks and God bless.

I can start you a cutting and mail it in the spring.

I'll take it. All the other cuttings I bought from you are thriving, the Brooklyn white was the main one I wanted and it's not doing well. So f'in annoying

It's no problem.
I can head out to the orchard tomorrow and find you something.
I will start you a few in the closet.
My 3 cup under led lights is working well this year.

Man, you're the best. I appreciate it.

I enjoy it.
Your welcome.

Any idea btw where brooklyn white comes from? It seems similar to Naples white? How similar are they?

As my memory of the story goes. A member named Bass found the tree growing in somebody's front yard in brooklyn ny.
It was cold hardy and cuttings were sold from it.

It is a very robust growing fig and my tree was loaded last year.
The taste definitely improved with age on this one.

Don't know, I do not have Naples white.

is this jimmychao's unknown Bronx white?  That's the one you have, Ritchie.  One of my favorites.  Who'da thought a cold-hardy yankee fig would be such a winner in the hot humid gulf south?!

This one came from bass years ago and was passed around.
I do not find it odd that a cold hardy fig would only do better in a warmer climate.
Why wouldn't it?
Doug

Man, I really appreciate that. Btw I started using your 4 cup method, and my rooting has been going much better, thanks for all the good tips.

For you, no problem.
I want others to enjoy what I do for fun.
Passing it on....
Let me know when your weather is good to ship.

It's not the warmth here, it's the wet, chewy air that tends to spoil most varieties, esp open-eyed varieties.

So it is not that cold hardiness and humidity-tolerance are mutually exclusive, but that each quality seems to manifest in the minority of varieties, and finding a variety suited to both climates is a double score!

For it to have been found in Brooklyn then passed it around, was cool.
But it is also my wife's favorite light fig of them all.
It is a quite tasty fig, big and plump. Making myself hungry
for a fresh fig...

This is one I would love to try... if anyone has cuttings available for purchase or trade please send me a PM :)
Tyler... EDIT promised... thanks ;)

I have a couple started from Carmine. Interesting to see if they are the same.

My BW from Jimmy failed, my fault. The one I have from him though, is Lyndhurst White.

It was postmarked Lyndhurst NJ. I thought that was cool.

Mine came indirectly from the source.
Very vigorous grower but one of the more hard to root for me.

I'll keep you posted on the weather Doug, supposed to get some snow this week. My name is Luke by the way.

Ok Luke, got ya.
