brought out all the trees for the spring.

after setting aside things i'm going to ship, and things that i don't want and i don't want anyone to have.. mainly USDA/UCD Calvert and Ischia Green.. i don't know why i have so many of those... i'm down to 62. that's the ones that will give me figs. i think out of the i'm giving away 8 to co-workers, a friend, and one of my kids' teacher. that leaves me 54. i'll have to see if i have duplicates. i know i i have them. just can't tell which is which. some of labels are just impossible to read.

Congrats Pete in taking your figs out.
We're still a long ways to go here in the north.

You said something that can be a figgers worst nightmare! "Some of the labels are just impossible to read". Been there and done that!

Best way to protect your investment and if the name "is" that important to you as it is to me I would suggest investing on the aluminum plant tags. You can engrave on both side with the ease of a ball point pen. Best of all it never fades away.

Good luck

Pete, nice trees in the blue tubs, man!
That second (middle) one is gorgeous, nice shape.

Nice ... Be careful of a late spring frost

right behind the trees is the garage. if frost is forecasted, they are going in. my wife's car will be parked on drive way that day :)

As Rafed said.

Yep all mine are outside again and I'm hoping for no frost/freezes till next Winter!!! I even have my five gallon buckets filled with cuttings outside. I just lay the lid on them when hard rain is expected. Another ten days and I think I'll be safe.

Pete, although it was 68 degrees today and 68 degrees tomorrow, it's gonna be 27 Friday morning in Charlotte. I've got a lot at stake and can't risk my trees being out in 27 degrees. Therefore, I'm keeping mine in at least another week, probably the 22nd. Plus my new deck hasn't been started yet.

'Bout time your Cub Scouts earned their Fig Shuffle badge :)

Pete, hope you are not to early. Forecasting some
20's here.

Pete,

It would be a good idea to take some newspaper and wrap around the bud tips and growing branches and place a plastic bag over them to help keep from freezing.

If those bud tips freeze they are going to break and drain when they thaw. Setting you back up to a half season. Once these buds start to bleed there's almost no stopping them.

And if this is too much to do then when you take them back inside at least throw a cover over them.

forecast is keep changing. right now, fri morning will go down to 30. i'll probably take them inside on wed night unless the temp goes back to 35 or higher. and take them back out on fri.

At the moment, I only have eight small (>2 gallon) trees to worry about in Denver. They broke dormancy in the basement. They went out yesterday, back in last night, and outside this morning until Tuesday.

now it seems like there will be stretch of 4-5 days below 32 in couple of weeks. geesh.. i wish they make up there mind, but i guess there is no controlling the weather.

what a difference a day out in 70 degree makes.. the trees look amazingly happy. buds are breaking on places i didn't know bud will come out. too bad they have to go back in on wed.
