Hello All,

  Today I noticed lots of the nickel size fruits on my hc and natalina have lots of brown spots and when i rub them a crystal like residue comes off.It has been warm and muggy here in rhode Island the last few weeks.Is this a disease or human error.There both in 18g sub irrigated pots and they are growing so good except for the fruit.If anyone else has gone thru this please share.

Those sound like 'sugar spots' to me.  Some fruits crack when ripened.  Some fruits split.  Some fruits (often yellow ones) produce sugar spots.  Let me find a picture and I will ask if they match yours.

I guess i'm the only one with this problem

some of my VdB figs have black/brown spots. but i didn't bother much with it since i would be luck to get some riped ones. i think my tree was so stressed by reporting, it might not finish the job. but tree is going great.

It is possible that wasps or some other insect are biting in them for the latex to build nests.  This would result in sap excreting, along with a brown spot, and you may see crystaline structures forming in that spot from the sugar inside the sap.

This is entirely speculation, clutching for straws, since nobody has a concrete answer yet.

I have the same problem with my hardy chicago I got from edible landscapes the figs have little black spots with a white crystal type substance that seems to be oozing from the fig skin. 

   Hey Will I did some research in the fig forum and noticed bass posted some picks of figs that match our current situation,so I think the only way we will find out is If he would share his experience with us Ive noticed this forum is a bit clicky at times so I think I'm going to have to just hope this abnormality doesn't effect the fruit and share my results at the end of the season.

I'm having the same issue with my brown turkey tree here in Rhode Island. It was also purchased at Edible Landscapes if that means anything. And its only on my brown turkey. Not on any other tree.

I was told by master gardener that high humidity can cause brown spots.

    Geo...I have those crystal residue spots on several of my varieties including Natalina, Celeste, and an unknown dark variety that I call Marion(after the lady that gave me the cuttings)...I get these same crystal spots every season while the figs are in an unripe stage(30 to 45 days out), and come harvest time the sticky crystals disappear and the figs continue to full ripeness, and they have always turned out delicious.

Chivas, kind of but on mine, there are more spots but a lot smaller and don't appear to be as deep. Also, I read your whole thread and the figs aren't falling off at all. I have a photo but having difficulty posting it.

Sometimes rubbing from leaves when its windy can cause brown markings, I have a lot with this on some figs this year.  Some trees are exuding white latex as they are growing along the stem near the growing point.  There weren't damaged, they were just growing so fast that they were leaking latex from rapid growing and most likely root pressure.  This is what my thought is on it but I could be wrong.  If I am right it could be possible that your figs are growing at a rapid rate and then get brushed by something causing this, but I will not say for sure this is what is happening.

Same here.
Exactly the way you explained it.
Earlier in the season after the rain, I remember noticing white sap seeping through young embryo skin.
Once on the outsside of the skin sap cristalized.
These spots are brownnish.
Rubbing of the leaves also left marks even darker ones.
appearacnce of fruit on a few varieties only wa affected.
These are unconfirmed HC, other unknowns.
While Excell is unblemished.
