Brown Turkey Overload

I really thought that these would split in the recent heavy rain, but are ripening nicely and are good when nearly all black. What they lack in taste, they make up in volume..

Ok, no secret, I don't think BTs should be taken internally. However, in observing mine this summer when it have been way too cool for figs. it occurs to me that they are unusually bad. I got to wondering if they are a variety that needs a lot of heat, maybe even extreme heat, to develop properly.

Jon,

Just picture a well riped and chopped B/T fig on top of a bowl of French Vanilla ice cream and caramel topping. Em Em good.

I know your mouth is watering now.

Yes, I'm looking for a spittoon.

Jon,

Tell me you didn't want to dive on that fig on this post.

That is one tasty looking B/T fig.

BTW,
Good looking fig Scott.

Great Pics Scott!  I was starting to think my BTs were not BTs but after seeing yours, I think they are.  The color isn't really brown until the figs begin to dry on the tree.  Darn birds and ants were trying to gobble all the figs but some they could not reach.  I got them!  Mother tree is too large to cover with netting so me and the birds just share.  Back in early July these were picked and I got 3 more crops from mom.  They are really red this year inside and out!  And the taste is so good and sweet!  Some folks don't like BTs but true Southern BTs have an awesome thick sweet taste!  I am still picking figs!!!

My BT was very good taste this year as we had hot Summer here in Illinois.
Now as weather is cooling down BT`s are loosing it`s sweetines. So it is possible that bt needs hot weather to ripen properly.

Sorry for the discomfort, Jon, I know BTs make you sick. None of the early August figs on this tree ripened well, they got huge and then split with only a watermelon taste. After the last two weeks of a heat wave, they turn black on the bottom (open eye) and soften up. I have to cut the tops off of soda cans and stick them over the figs to keep the birds away. Very sweet right now.

Thanks, Rafed. Your figs look good too.
