Bsirri White (not) a white for Martin

Purchased the tree 2 years ago directly from Bisirri's as their white fig. Obviously this is not a white and not Bisirri Dark that I am familiar with. I also purchased the dark from Bisirri's and it has smaller fruit and different leaves. Bisirri dark, the one sold as dark is a small dark fig, very good but different. This fig, also dark with larger fruit and wow! I was actually stunned by how good this fig tasted to me. I do not have a very good fig palate and only have tasted a couple of the premium figs, but I must say this fig was dynamite!! Juicy, sweet and figgy, definitely one of the best figs I have ever tasted. Ricci do you know what this might be since you already started trying to identify Bisirri's fig varieties? Herman, do you, does any one?

bump

Leaves look neat. Congratulations!

Ok Barry, there sure is a difference. I'll have to go back, because I don't have it. The grand daughter told me that I did, but she was mistaken. This one is considered the white? Looks good. That means I have 3 Blacks. I'll make a trip in a couple days and get the white. Thanks for showing the pics, sure takes the mystery away.

Luke, no this is obviously not the white but was sold to me as the white, so it looks like the people he has working for him are mixing up the trees. I'm hoping Ricci chimes in he is more familiar with all 3. Until recently I was under the impression only 2 were being sold, dark and light

Barry, I just spoke with Mr. Bisirri today on the phone. This was earlier, before I looked at your pics. Asked him how many types he had, his reply was 2. Also told me that the leaves were the same between the 2. Well looking at your pics, they sure are different. Speaking with him, he was very nice gentleman and was very eager to answer my questions. But, thinking maybe someone else added a different type of fig and he might not know. Also he mentioned that people move tags around on trees, but when I was there the grand daughter told me that I could not go over where the trees were at because they were concerned with someone tripping over  stuff and hurting themselves. She told me, she would bring the trees for me to look at. That seemed strange to me, so I just did as told. Would really like to know if there is a third one, before I head up. Again thanks for the pics.

Luke, According to Ricci there is a 3rd and since they sell a dark and a light and I bought my trees directly from them and now have 2 darks that are different, I think Mr Bisirri is mistaken. I know from talking to his son that other people have brought fig trees to him to grow, so that is a possible explanation. Maybe the son added in a few of those trees into the inventory without the dad knowing. I've met Mr Bisirri, he is a very nice guy and quite a character. And like many old time fig growers believe that only his trees are worth growing and are the very best to have. That kind of attitude might be a reaon for the son to sell them surreptitiously. Anyway, I would really like the white too. If you know when you are gonna be up my way, shoot me a pm and maybe we can meet up. Be happy to show you my trees and go with you to Bisirris too if we can arrange it.

Sounds Great Barry, I'd like that. Sounds like we need to find the son. Not sure how to do, wounldn't want to upset Mr. Bisirri or show any disrespect. Hey, what's the one big word you threw in there. Does it mean on the down low. Maybe we could get him to show us his fig trees, and we will keep our eyes out for other leaf shape, and possibly the time of year, the fruit. Next week or two good? I'm retired, so most times are good. I do try to avoid rush hour traffic times though. I'm easy and will work around a time that fits you best.

LOL yeah that big word is basically the same as on the down low. I was under the impression that they closed for the summer, but if you spoke to Mr Bisirri yesterday, I guess not. Next week or 2 would be fine. Don't want to bore everyone with our meeting details so we can pm to arrange for that.

Barry:
I have this fig. I had a breba a few weeks ago. This is the fig , that I called Bisirri #1 ( the first fig that I purchased). It is a very fine fig at that.

Lukeott:

Bisirri's is not far from my job. And yes, they are closed. I went there last week. I also spoke to Mr. Bisirri and asked if I could come by to see his white fig when ripe.

If in fact the leaves between the dark and white are similar, there are more than three (3) figs in the nursery.

I had mention on a previous post that Joe ( Bisirri's son) had stated that several people would leave their fig trees at their place. Hence =, I have three different figs (all dark skin)

Well on the one hand we may be about to discover a couple more very good fig varieties, on the other hand ther is much confusion about what is now coming out of Bisirri's. I hope we can arrange a visit to see his trees in fruit that will help a lot.

Ok here are both Bisirri figs that I have. The 2 smaller ones were sold as dark and is what Ricci calls his Bisrri 2. The larger one is the one sold as white and is the fig in the subject line what Ricci calls Bisirri 1. One of the smaller figs was a big riper and it I could taste the difference. They were very good. The larger "white" not fig is incredibly good.
