build order.

long time ago. well only about 11 yrs ago, i used to spend everynight playing this game called "starcraft". the term "build order" is referring to linear progression of building up your base/army. i've been thinking and it should work with growing figs.

sort of like KISS way for growing fig. how to start the rooting. what to do when moving to cup.. 1 gal.. and bigger container or into the ground. how to fertilize. sort of step by step instruction on how to go about doing this until that tree is more or less past it's 1 gal pot stage.

like the game i used to play, everyone's build order is different.

Pete,  Here's mine: Growing Tips

If this is a game, where are the rules, and who wins?

My board would start with Zip Lock Baggies partially filled with damp (not wet) Sphagnum Moss.  I would put the name of the cutting and the donor on the baggie.  Let it rest, wrapped in a dark towel in the dark for 4-9 days.  Then, I'd open up the baggie, give it all air for a couple hours, and check for roots.  Anything with roots goes to game 2.  They get all snuggly in a plastic cup with half and half peat and perlite (not exactly true in my case... the peat has a lot of sphagnum in it).  Another cup goes on top of all this, and it has a few air holes, and it is sealed to the bottom cup with some tape.  Somewhere on that tape is the name of the cutting and the person from whom you got it.

Rule other:  Wrap the bottom cup with the roots in foil, or put them in a dark cup.  Whatever.  Roots like it dark.

When leaves show and grow, pot up!  Mist!

You got a fig plant!!

1) old baggie method to start the root.
2) peat pot method to make sure the roots are good enough before moving forward.
3) 1 gal container once the roots have reached the outside cup.
4) winter in garage.
5) move to 3-5 gal in early spring.
6) don't prune till spring year after. <- new part.
