Burnt many times... JT

Hi everybody,

This year I received a Jolly Tiger cutting (again).
And just like the year before it's not a Jolly Tiger. (And before that)
This is costing me a lot of money with zero result.
Could somebody could help me to find a genuine seller with the real deal?
Or even better, does somebody have some spare cuttings?
I live in the Netherlands and I will pay all the costs to receive some genuine cuttings.

Best regards!

Sebas
The Netherlands

Edit: I see now this is my first post?!? I have posted here in the past?

Ask to see pics and run them through Google images to be sure they are not stolen. The fig community at large will often boast about the legitimacy of its members and that sense of trust gives scammers an opportunity to rip people off.

You live in Europe so unless your area has prohibitive importation laws, you have more options than many of us USA members on the forums have. We can't import fig cuttings from outside the country or we'll be subjected to hideous fines and confiscation. Thus, Ebay is a tremendous, albeit dangerous resource for us.

However, you can contact fig orchards in various countries including Spain and Italy which sell both cuttings and potted trees. "I Giardini di Pomona" in Puglia comes to mind. I've also heard a bit about the fig orchardist Monserrat Pons in Spain and although I don't know much about him or his business in particular, those are the kind of people/orchards you should check out.

You have access to some of the finest fig varieties on the planet for only a couple of euro. Don't worry about it.

Ooo...the Netherlands.  I don't have the tree you're looking for (total newbie to growing figs), but your post caught my eye as I am currently hosting a Dutch exchange student and my daughter is getting ready to study in Tilburg for the Spring semester.

Vivaio Belfiore near Florence , very nice people to deal with.

Beside the varigated leaves, it's fruit tastes poor and splits easily. I don't know why people looking to obtain a variety that only have 'pretty leaves'. Also, those varigated leaves are highly sensitive to full exposure to sun and prone to be burned.

Navid.

Navid,
I respectfully disagree with you .
The JT tastes great, has large dark figs that ripen evenly and do not split.

Greenfig,

Not everyone's from Southern CA, have the best climate for figs and have fig wasps in back of their woods. JT might be the best fig in your climate but not in zone 6 and probably not in Netherlands! Few years ago, another long-time grower described its taste as "like cardboard", he was correct and that's what my experience have been with JT.

Navid.

Just a picture.

@Ievar,

Luckely we do not have any strange importation laws.
A couple of years ago I went to Hawaii and bought a lot of plants there.
Back at the airport in Amsterdam custom officiers thought I found some really cool plants :)

I contacted orchards and Sellers in Spain, France and Italy without results.

@Melissa,

Tilburg is just 30 minutes from here. If you or youre daughter need something just send me a pm!

@Mario_1,

Do you have a link? Can't find a website or something.

@Navid,

I'm addicted to pretty leaves. I do not understand why you don't understand that people taste is different ;)

@Hershell

Great picture, thanks!

The question still stands about the cuttings.

Best regards,

Sebas

Ps: sorry for my poor English.

Dutchgreener,

Report back in couple of years and let us know how JT tastes in your climate.

Navid.

I agree that everyone has a different palate.  The outcome of the fig does depend highly on the climate and care.  There are so many factors that can contribute to its taste.  I think this is what makes this fruit so unique.  There are many variants.  And, I love the look of the variegated leaves on the JT.  It is on my wish list AND, I would surely love to have some cuttings!
