Bush form vs. tree form

I don't know if this has been discussed, but have people found that certain cultivars grow better as bushes vs. trees?

It is a matter of personal preference. For example: I prefer a bush over a tree, easier access to pick fruit. And sometimes I prefer a tree form for landscaping or shade. Doesn't matter what variety you can train it either way

If I was putting it into the ground then I was go bush because it looks more natural and grows huge.

Tamar,
Yes. Certain cultivars will naturally want to grow as bush form. Violet de Bordeaux and Alma are two that have been mentioned in prior posts. But all cultivars can be trained in the bush or tree form. The tree form is staked, while the bush form is cut back to within a few inches from the ground to form low branches. A member, FMD has posted pictures of his Alma sisters which are Alma in tree form. Its all up to your location and preference.

i keep all my figs in containers. personally, i think tree form looks better in the container. however, there are few cultivals that prefer to put out lot of suckers. VdB being one.. so does White Greek, Col de Dame Blanche and Nori both seems to grow like a flag pole. i might need to put them in biggier nicer container and put on the front of the house.

The main reason I am asking is because I'd like to replace a sickly dogwood in our front yard with a fig tree, but want a fig hedge in a tier in our backyard. I picked up a Kadota at Pike's Nursery a few weeks ago (hooray for half off sales) that's about 6' tall with only a few branches at the top... and one sticking out of the bottom. Maybe the bottom one is for support? Anyways, do you think that one would do well in the front?
