I have been getting my mix sterilized from gnats by microwaving it on high for 6 minutes. Soaking my cuttings in water for 2 hours, it has a few drops of bleach. I have faster roots by doing this. I have tested this to be true. I am using a humidity bin with moist potting soil and dirt/sand combination. Also some in a ziploc bag with some water. Not rooting in water this year. ...
But, If my cuttings after 3 weeks appear to stall, I will soak them for a day or two. Some will start to have nodes others will mold, keep the strong ones. Hope this helps.

Thanks Rich and Frank...I hope to get good at growing figs, so I can expand my collection... I think I am down to 24 varieties, which is manageable.
