Buying a young tree with no fruit on it

Hi I feel as though I might be starting too many topics, but I don't know who else to ask. I have a young adriatic that I planted last fall (as a one foot tall stick from OC Nursery), and it has grown nicely this year in crappy native soil -pure sandstone I think- and it has only one fruit on it. This tree is about 4 feet tall now, and with wide lateral branches, and tons of big beautiful leaves.

I also recently bought a larger Black Mission that is equally beautiful and had lots of leaves and nice growth, but again, no fruit whatsoever. I had been looking only at the variety, then tree health and amount of new wood, thinking that any dearth of fruit was because of it being in a pot or something. I could post pics of either tree if it would be helpful.

I would love to know if this is an indication as to its future productivity, so I can take them out now and move on, or if it means little and they could still become heavy bearers.

Thanks very much

Some trees may take a few years before they produce figs. I can only tell you about mine (unknown variety) it is in its second season in the ground and is finally making some fruit. I don't know enough about your varieties to give you specifics but what you are experiencing sound consistents with what I've read. My tree was also planted without alot of soil preparation.

Thank you Steve, I feel much better.
