Cajun Fig Fest

Cajun Fig Fest,

Jstall, Noss, and I are putting together the first F4F Cajun Fig Fest in Lafayette La. on Oct. 6, 2012 for our fig loving friends here on the forum.  We are looking for a show of hands to see approximately how many will attend. We want you to bring along your spouses and any friends that might be interested. The plans call a pot luck lunch where everyone brings a covered dish. There will be a couple of keynote speakers, one from LSU, some nurserymen, some with orchards and just folks like you and I who love figs and to talk about them.

We are encouraging you to bring fig trees or cuttings to sell, trade or give away or just plain show off, and also any fig products like jams, preserves, cookies for sale or tasting.

We haven’t put the final touches on the day yet, but I just wanted to get y’all thinking about it. Also any and all suggestions will be taken into account as this is a first event for us.

So please post in this thread, by email to Noss @ (menoceros@yahoo.com) or Private Message your intent to come join us. Noss will act as our registrar.

We will be posting directions and complete information for the day soon.

We are looking to pass a good time and “Laissez le bon temps rouler”.

I would like to attend, but can't commit yet.  Sounds like a real good time.

Would love to visit the warmer climes, the Bayou, and make some Southern friends....but obligations, and a 92 year old dad, bind me to The Big Apple.

Wishing you much success for your new fig coterie.  Have a great time, and a safe trips.

Frank

Another ponderer here. I sure would like to meet all ya'll wonderful people but that is a long drive...gosh, it is eight hours just to get out of Texas ;)

Alexis, what's eight hours to visit friends and eat well. I know what you mean about crossing Texas. I plan to do just that in September on my way to California. I kinda had thoughts of heading thru Austin but haven't decided yet. It will add a little time to the trip. We went there about 20 years ago for Thanksgiving when our daughter lived there. Her husband work at Bergstrom for the government. It was a very nice place to visit.

Chapman, keep your options open, we love to see ya.

Frank, I totally understand, family comes first. I went through that last year and the year before.

Alexis, I was gonna suggest a car pool, but even that doesn't make it seem "less far".  LOL.

Gene, perhaps if you had a schedule of the events (even a preliminary draft), it would make it easier for people to make plans.

Frank, all the best to your dad.

Gene, you are a mighty persuasive man.

James, that would make sense. But don't you always have a car full of plants? ;)

Not *always*

Gene,

You know very well anything Cajun makes my belly happy.
Hope I can make it.

James,
I have a 53' trailer. Wink Wink

I guess y'all know we'd like to see all of you come down, but we understand that sometimes things are not possible. Maybe we could cook up a deal with Rafed and his 53 foot trailer. That could hold a bunch of you very comfortably. What about it Rafed, you want to play taxi.

James I will have more info soon.

I was hoping the 53 footer would be full of figs.

Unfortunately I will have to pass (drats!!!)  My SO (Significant Other) is disabled with a chronic illness.  I don't do much further then an hour or so away outside of work.  I will be there in spirit!    Tell the speaker from LSU I love the purple!!!!
