Calimyrna fig

I bought some fresh Calimyrna figs at the fruit store boy are they tasty rich honey nutty flavor .I know I can't grow it here in Mi because of pollination.I was just wondering if you fig friends could share a few suggestions what taste similar to calimyrna.Jon suggested Deanna, and 278-128 any other suggestions? Thanks and God Bless.

Glad u brought this up I too bought a box and loved them. Are sierra and sequoia similar tasting?

How long did the box last you Nelson ?LOL

My 36 fig box lasted less than 36 hours

Lmao

Ejp3 36 hours for 36 figs would be torturing me.  ; )

I ate half the box on the way home from the store wich is only 5 minutes from my house. Then ate the rest with my daughter after dinner she really liked them, it was funny when it came down the last one we were both looking at each other but we shared lol. Need to go buy some more after work.

Good thing you clarified, Nelson. At 36 hours you would have lost Fig Nazi status, Fignatic status, probably even Fig Lover status,

LOL, Jon that's a good one. Hey Jon since your in Paradise where this fig has been grown for a long time. Any idea's as to what figs might taste fairly similar that dont require pollination? Really enjoyed these and I can only imagine how good they would be if picked fully ripe from the tree.

Does anyone know where I could get the Sequoia fig tree/cuttings?  I really love the Calimyrna figs but of course I don't have the wasp so I was hoping it would come closer to the taste up north here.  Did anyone have luck finding something similar?

Here's a previous thread on both Sequoia and Sierra figs:

Does anyone have a picture of the Sequoia fruit? Thanks

Both those links don't put any information on where to find the Sequoia fig, but it is good information on the pollination of the calimyrna.

I bought some white figs (calimyrna) and was not expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised. Wow were they good even better tasting than the Mission figs that were also better than I expected. I did not think a white fig could have such a rich flavor. To bad there is no fig wasp in Jersey :(

Pete

Heat a green house and import the wasp.  Then sell us the fresh, ripe figs  :)
