Itoo hope it will stay alive.
I grew three of them till now,and they all died,it just do not want to thrive on the east coast.
I also had a couple of ripe fruits ,and can tell you they are very good tasting.
What I also can say ,is that it looks very Similar to Adriatic JH,as if an Adriatic JH would be infested with a very grave Fig mosaic virus strain.
So for now I am not trying to grow it anymore as the Adriatic JH ,is healthy and has some wonderfully excellent tasting fruits, that are second to none in the white fig category.

I had the hardest time rooting Calvert.  Many props to you for getting as many rooted as you did.

i read somewhere that it's hard to grow outside of CA. then i heard there are some members growing this in TX. i'll be growing this and others in container. hopefully, it will make to 5 gal container and stay alive for me to at least taste the fig. heard lot of good things about it. but haven't seen much post on forum regarding Calvert. i think i saw a post that shows jon's picture.

Pete,

Calvert is a synonym for Verte. DNA testing further corroborates it. Good luck!

per UCD scion list, Calvert and Vert are listed seperate.. also Ischia Green is listed seperate. similar figs grown in different region ending up in different taste?

Just because UCD lists a variety is no guarantee that it is what they say it is. The best they can offer us is that a Calvert cutting came from a Calvert tree. Not that Calvert is different or the same as a Verte/IG. They accept a specimen with the name listed by the source. Whether that name is a synonym for another variety is determined later by research. Calvert and Verte were both compared by UCD using their own specimens decades ago and found to be the same. Differences in taste alone is not sufficient to identify a particular tree as a new variety just like comparing and contrasting caprified vs. uncaprified figs does not mean you are dealing with two different varieties.

i guess so. i'll find out how they are same/different soon enough.. if they are same, i have ton of duplicates..

UCD doesn't compare whole genomes they compare certain regions that tend to vary a lot.  If the differences between a Calvert and Strawberry Verte are in locations they don't test they'll report identical even if they're not.
