Came home to this...

Longue d'Aout is ripening figs nearly all at the same time.  I picked 3 today, with maybe 4 more to be ready tomorrow.  Just a monster of a fig with lots of flavor.  This was dead to the ground back in May.  No fertilizer used.  Just good ol' Virginia clay!

I like the way you are growing that bush. Good looking figs

What a sight. Where are the birds? Beautiful figs.

Hershell....Shhhhhhhh  ;)

With a yard full of figs, not one has been lost *yet*.

Congrats on your figgies Frank.

That's great news that it can freeze to the ground and still ripen figs.

Very nice Frank

That is great news.

What a beauty!
I like your cage. I will have to do a similar one but with the closed top against the squirrels.
I am tired of eating the leftovers this summer.

Nice.  I totally know the feeling. I came home at dark ...so with a flash light I go out to my trees checking on what is going on... Found one Sucrette very swollen.. it may even ripe to tell me what it is like.

That is certainly one more reason to say "It's good to be home".

Congrats, Frank.  Looks nice.

Mike

Hi Figgyfranck,
Do you too have ducks around :P ?
My "Longue d'aout" wouldn't grow like that . With no die back, she grew 2 sticks of 30 centimeters and that's all for this year .
Funny yours is sprouting from the dirt as "Longue d'aout" is known for not sending shoots - just as mine does :( .
I made an airlayer of a "Goutte d'or" this year ... and this airlayer already sent a root-shoot ... My lda 5 years - no root shoot !
But at least now she's growing at an almost acceptable rate - and made 6 figs this year. two are still hanging - but forget about them,
and I knocked of the ten tiny figs that popped out beginning of September.
And yes: I'm fertilizing crazy ... and will continue - she grows or dies I'm done with waiting on her.

Looks good

No ducks, but deer, rabbits and squirrels.  :)
My LdA was planted in spring of 2013 and threw out shoots immediately.  Since it did the same this year, I did an air layer on one of the branches and it's been doing very good so far since removing.

Looks good Frank, that might go on my short list, didn't realize how hardy it is. Tried one yesterday at someone's house and it's a good one!
