I received this cutting on 19 February 2010 and today we picked three more (for a total of four this season). This is a very good fig. It is rain, heat, humidity, and drought tolerant. It will likely dry on the tree (if it ever stayed that long) and quite difficult to describe but here is a try...Flavor : Neither berry nor figgy but a combination of something that I have tasted before.Pulp : Neither jam-like nor really juicy.Taste : Rich, complex, and not so sweet like some others. Just damn good.Skin : Melted away. It neither detracted nor added to the taste. When my wife and I tasted this fig, we both were "WOWed". It is easily the best fig we have tasted this year. Nothing scientific because we did not have enough of any of these figs to sample adequately. For comparison, the other figs we have tasted are Alma, Beale, Black Bethlehem, Fico Preto, Hardy Chicago, Hunt, LSU Improved Celeste, LSU Purple, LSU Scott's Black, Ronde de Bordeaux, Strawberry Verte, Texas Blue Giant, and TXBA-1 (Not) with hopefully a few more to go. EDIT: I recognize that the name on this fig is misleading because it isn't "black" but it does resemble an immature version of what Jon posts .

Very Nice looking fig JD.
Oh, and Jon,
speaking about names, feel free to add " Nick's Big and Juicy " to your
web site if you like.
I think it would be cool to see that fig in the " Big Lights "
You can also add, AKA " Nick's Big Italian " ;)

Celt - You are welcome. Twenty months (20) to get those figs some closer to two years. Yes, it is an aggressive rooter. It is whip that is almost 6 feet tall. I chose it because of the name so I was expecting a dark fig but that just does not matter. It is a very good fig and unquestionably a keeper. If it gets better in the ground and prospers, then we will be very pleased. Luke - My wish list has 74 and counting... Martin - I said the same thing and yes, you would be careful like I was. I kept waiting for the fig to turn and it never did so it was very wrinkled and very very good. Unless something magical happens, wait until you see the photos for what is supposed to be Sicilian Black JR. If it is good, the I will simply say "That is the name it had when I received it. Hey, what's in a name?" This will be the third fig from trusted sources that has been mislabeled. Ouch!

Another fig that likes the coolness of November here in 8B...Camuna Small Black. It has ripened about two figs per week since 30 September. Since 8 October, the Mocking birds have sampled the ripe ones and ignorantly, I was still using the coffee filters (Note: the switch to newspaper has been helpful; if only for a 'change of pace'). Today was proof that the newspaper helps.
