Hello Nick

Nice figs! Could you please tell us about its approx size and weight ?
It's not a Dark Portuguese but could be another Portuguese variety which seems to be popping up here and there these days . A heavy-weight for those looking for massive figs..
Grown in California and with the good cultivation practices it could easily approach the 10 ounce and go even beyond that

Francisco, thank you
unfortunately, i wasn't the recipient of those delicious looking figs. I wish I had more info.
It appears you have a Portuguese fig name in mind?

Remind me the figs shown by Jscadura called cullheos...

Any leaf pics?

Yes Nick, IMO it looks very much like our Common variety 'donkey balls', its most popular name.
The info on size/weight plus a few more details..on leaf and time of ripening  as well as pictures showing the fruit on its branch could confirm this assumption.
There are a few strains of this same fig with  darker skins as well as some fruit sporting slight  asymmetric shapes

Hi Nick!
Where in Los Angeles is your neighborhood?
There are a few members who live here.

akrouus,

Compare them to the photos i posted on this thread:

As Francisco says, if you confirm the size/weight and a few other details maybe we can help you further.

Jsacadura, that looks like a perfect mach, thanks to you and Francisco and Elin for pointing it out. How is the taste?

akrouus,

I can't help you there because i have never tasted that fig. But my friends tell me it has good flavour, not exceptional (the larger figs rarely do, the flavour being somewhat diluted), but good nevertheless.

You can check more flavour opinions on the full thread:
