can anyone please identify this fig for me?

I also start growing it from a cutting.

the owner told me that this fig tree was brought from Greece, but he does not know the name of it

these are very very juicy, it feels like you're biting on a watermelon, that's how juicy it is.

Sorry I can't but looks amazing.

Nice pictures.  Sorry I cant help.

Maybe?
In Greece there are a lot of varieties of figs but none can compare to the Cypriot variety of Vartika figs.

That is a good looking fig! The inside resembles Stella but I don't think its the same. Do you know from what part of Greece it came from?

 Pete

The figs remind me of posted pictures of Vasilika Sika. More pictures of the dominant leaves would probably be helpful. I have a Stella which has similar looking figs, but the Stella leaves are similar to Brunswick.
Good Luck.

Looks like petrelli kind of

I'll try to take some pictures of the leaves

the tree that you have is vasilika syka (aspra or lefka)
vasilika is royal, syka is fig, aspra or lefka is white...
they are in my opinion much better than the black version of vasilika syka.
i think that you should take of your list
- Markopoulou
- Markopoulou Mavra
they are nothing to wright home about...
white greek is the same as green greek (some people just say black figs and white figs) white are all that are not black and the only other kind is melissi
wich is not as said by most honey... meli is honey. when they say melissi they are just trying to describe the outer color (the skin)
i hope this helps. best of luck

Hi jafos, welcome to the forum.

are you sure this is Vasilika Sika? The leaf of the Vasilika Sika are totally different from this one ,that's from what is from what I see in some other pictures.

what part of Greece are you from?
I am Greek too, from Kos and Rhodos , and my wife is from Sparta.

It looks like you know a lot about Greek FIGS,I'm planning on going to Greece this summer for vacations and I would bring back some cuttings, do you have any suggestions on which type is good to bring here ,it also have to be so pollinated.

The fig is Dalmatie

Hi Herman

The fig size, shape and leaf resembles, but of what I see from pictures in this website, Dalmatie fig has a light yellowish color, this one is a litter darker green and also has a very thick skin.
and then again I could be wrong .

Herman, do you know if Vasilika Sika ,White Greek or Genovise Nero are good for my zone 6b-7 ( for in ground)
Which of those 3 is better in taste and sweetness?

Thank you Herman

if you go to most plant nurseries here in patras you will find that they sell
fig trees named vasilika syka with both leaf paterns... (I dont know why...)
the end resold as far as the fruit goes is the same.
white greek aka green greek is rounder.
vasilika syka is more pear shaped.
i am at the suburbs and you can find the finger like leafs in most wild grown male fig trees.
i dont have or like vasilika syka (mavra aka black) so i have not noticed the leafs
it could be that the black kind has that leaf that you are talking about.
i cant remember if a guy from greece (sotiris) is in this forum or not. he is a seller and has posted pictures of his figs and trees.
he claims that they are vasilika syka and they probably are,but if they are, they are vasilika syka MELESSI. i would guess that they are markopoulou
try to find his picktures and you will see that the leafs on his trees are not finger like.

if you can read greek this will help

http://www.kostelenosfytoria.gr/products.php?pageId=10
its just a random search i dont recomend this guy.
best of luck

Thank you jafos.

Do you recommend any of the Greek fig

Figs4life:Any of those work if they are healthy plants and if you Winterprotect, the best you can.
With the harsh Winter we had,my loses are minimal, most plants have green buds at base, and will grow back in a couple of month, this very year.

Thank will do Patrioti

Jafos:I have Vasilika Sika white from Greece, and it is exactly like the first pix you are showing ,fruit leaf, interior, except it is greenish yellow on outside.
I do agree with you that the fig in the main topic
is totally different than any you provided pictures.
First of all the shape of the fruits are totally different.

here is vasilika sika white Pix 123
and here is Dalmatie 4 and 5

Both cultivars are first class tasting, here in NJ, and I presume exceptionally good tasting in better warmer dryer climates with long Summer

Well l, It seem that someone here imported a plant from Europe and that was the name the person had on the plant label.
So the new name stuck, and  the plant is misnamed now.
It is very hard to get it right now.
The plant that is called Vasilika Sika here is Dalmatie fig.
Also Dalmatie fig is registred as " DFIC 0079 San Pietro" ,in US Germaplasm collection,at Davis California, another mistake

Hi Herman2,
Do you have pics of the brebas of your Dalmatie ?
Brebas on the Dalmatie are supposed to be bigger than the maincrop figs .

My Dalmatie makes maincrops more round (some round, some a bit less, some pear-shaped) and less same looking figs - all with "veins markings" on the skin.

Yours is making them more pear-shaped and all almost looking the same... I don't know or own or owned Tena, but yours looks more like the pic of Tena from Bauds .

Here is one of my maincrops from last year.
Figue-Dalmatie.JPG

Here are my brebas :
Figue-Dalmatie-brebas.JPG

My Dalmatie Tree 1 is able to make another type of figs, that seem to be a replacement crop in case of the brebas fail ... But I only saw them once for now.
So I don't know what all the conditions are for them to appear ...

My Dalmatie does not make Breba here because the fruit buds freezes to death every year.
The shape and color differ a little because of the climate, but the leaves are finger like on all of them.
What you see in my pixies is main crop, and of course they look different than Breba!

Hire ,we don’t know  what Vasilika Sika is…yet.

We call this one (pictures)-Dalmatie (Далматинска)

Of course Pako:What you got is Dalmatie, and I see in your language is properly called "Dalmatinska"

that explains it, no wonder why my friends tree doesn't get any brebas.
because you mentioned that Darmatie makes breba and this one in the photo doesn't, now everything makes sense .

Thank you Herman
