can't sleep.

and jack isn't helping. TN honey is good, but not strong enough.

checked on my KB cuttings and they are rooting like crazy. MB and Unk IB are still in the bag. Sweet Diana and Dom's is processed and now in bag.

slow winter. got a new cd. heard "the boys of summer" on the radio, it was much faster than what i was used to hearing, found out it's a cover by a band called ataris. i liked it. so got me a cd. i know.. cd is so yesterday. but i like to feel the product in my hand.

my boy finished his boy scout 1st class requirements and he will be doing his CoH on tuesday.. have to put a button on his uniform. some how he lost the button. it's little tight on him, but don't feel like putting the patches on. maybe i'll get him a new shirts and take it to the seamstress to ft. brag.

one more week and i'm off for a week. can't believe i've been with corp america for last 20 yrs. it seems it will never end, hope it never ends.. until i'm 75 and ready to retire or die.. x)

I don't know how I feel about the flavored whiskeys. I saw an ad for smoked maple knob creek the other day. I haven't tried it, but I have this hunch that it would be awesome mixed in with gravy and served with biscuits and bacon for brunch.

flavor anything is not my thing.. mostly. but lately i found spiced rum. i love them, but they are just too strong. my migraine won't handled them, so i tried TN honey. i like this. mellow and easy. but takes half of the 5th to feel anything.

note to myself. i need to start collecting ac/dc cds.

Pete, you won't get to sleep listening to AC/DC! :)

harvey, it's better than "back to gilwell".. i was shocked when no one sang that one during the beading.

Not a honey fan either! Good luck.

dan, slowly, but surely, it's getting there. but the darn thing is too slow..or my tolerance is too high.. darn.. how i wish i was a cheap date.

I love flavored coffee, (hazelnut to be exact). it's my breakfast every day.
hey Pete... what does this mean? ***** all my figs have FMV/FMD, in case you're wondering. *****
I'm new to this jargon of Phigs...LOL

Try gentleman jack on the rocks

FMV is Fig Mosaic Virus. FMD is Fig Mosaic Diseases. some members are concerned about trading cuttings with FMV. i'm not very concerned about it. if you grow figs from USDA/UCD and/or any commercial nursery, you are bound to have FMV.

Too much fig anxiety/questions/problems on one's mind may cause insomnia ... they are not worth it.
For the average family, all is needed is to just to pick 2-3 good figs, grow and nourish them and then enjoy the fruit.

I doubt there is any average people on here. I think we're all ABOVE average. Lol
Fig nuts have high intelligence from eating all those figs ;)

Wondering what Pete did to get to sleep tonight ... :)

He couldn't sleep yesterday...was going to tell him to call me I was up till 1am...doing fig stuff...LOL    The only thing is that I don't know Pete personally...but he can call me anytime or anyone else.

I think he went to sleep around 3am or 4am, I would think on the time difference.

So Pete call Armando when you cannot sleep and he will read you a bedtime story.  ; )

Gorgi's pos # 12  is so true, at first most folks want every type of fig plant under the sun and perhaps as they sort them
out and learn what there palate truly enjoys they scale down on numbers.
Truly there is no need for many many fig plants as many are similar in taste.
What does best in ones climate and taste department on ones palate is the key.

Martin, I totally agree but my palate is so uneducated with respect to figs and my knowledge of what does the best in my climate is so incomplete that it looks like I will have 25-30 or so varieties for another 3-4 years before seriously downsizing.  At least that's how I justify the craziness to myself.  In the meantime it is a lot of fun though :D

Rewton thats understandable most go through that i "was" no exception and still downsizing (will be done shortly) but not acquiring anymore that has passed.

Questions that keep me up at night....
Because the weather varies a lot from year to year, how many years does one give a variety before making a decision to keep it or get rid of it?  Similarly, how many years before a given variety reaches maturity with respect to flavor and productivity?  A precise answer isn't possible so I suspect when these decisions are made I'll have to go with my gut.  I'll give them 3-4 years anyway.

I agree with Martin and Gorgi.  Everybody cull down to 3 varieties and send the rest to me! :)  No beetles, etc., please!

I have about 70 varieties of pomegranates.  I had some customers come here to do U-pick pomegranates and they love having the diversity.  For me to harvest and pack variety boxes is very time-consuming so I'll probably focus more on U-pick.  I can have my entire crop harvested on just two weekends, I think.  I'm not quite sure yet about figs.  Some friends who have a very successful farmers' market operation (the outlet for most of their 65 acres of crops plus subscriptions) said that selling a lot of varieties is difficult because customers want to know the names and differences.  They have grown a lot of tomatoes but I think they grow a lot of tomatoes and I believe they grow maybe just a half dozen varieties.  I'm not sure yet what I'll do about marketing fruit from my figs.  I've thought about doing U-pick on that but don't want to be open every day for that.  Gorgi is ready to camp in my orchard and maybe will oversee that! :)

had couple of good night's sleep, and missed all the fun :)

Glad we could help! lol

i need to cull down soon. i know few that i'm keeping for sure. 1st 3 trees will stay. they taste good and they are going into 5th yr. from the new ones, i know CdD, St. Rita, RdB, and Niagara Black are staying. Hardy Chicago, more than likely also. rest, i'll have to see how they perform coming new yr, and next. i've almost stopped rooting. i do few here and there, but no where near to mass rooting like last winter or other members.
