Capa Rota

I bought some of these figs from a local stand at the beach in Portugal and the young guy selling them said his grand mother called them Capa Rota (Torn Cape In english). They were big, dark colored and reddish on the inside.I'm just wondering if anyone knows this variety...Ah, and they were also very delicious!I also had the chance (twice) of picking fresh figs off the trees (both white and dark) with my wife and a couple of friends, something I hadn't done in over 34 years.I was like a kid in a candy store that I even forgot to take some pictures...sorry!!!

Hi Manny,

Missed your thread at the proper timing, sorry for that, but better late than never...

Good to hear that you visited Fig Land ! and tasted Capa Rota. What the whereabouts you stayed and tasted those figs ?

Capa Rota, a very old fig name covers several varieties (?!)  People would call that to every fig they  see with a cracked skin ...

But given the timing of your visit, you may have tasted either Bêbera Branca or Bêbera Preta (see pics)

Happy return home

Francisco
