Carini Leafing Out nicely in Maryland - Now Figs!

Good Sunday Morning All

Just a quick note to say that my Carini is really throwing out some nice new leaves now. I started a few of these last year from cuttings, up-potted later in the year, and over-wintered in our unheated sunroom. Watered throughout with rain water every few weeks when pots looked and felt dry. Once the days started warming up here, coupled with extended sunshine, everything started to pop.

Here's a pix of the Carini enjoying some warm Spring breezes and morning sunshine. Enjoy.

Added a second snap of this Carini's first baby figlet. :-)

Hi Mark, it looks really good. I have a Carini cutting that I just put into 1 gallon, and hope it does as well as yours. Have you tasted this variety before? Enjoy the day; Gary

Go Mark!
My Carini is also leafed out with a couple of Brebas, hope they hold on. I left it outside over winter as I felt it was large enough and in a 5 gallon bucket and it did fine. I'm really excited to taste these and a big THANK YOU to Frank for sharing all of these!

Mark looks lovely, a question regarding Carinis... all my Carini cuttings, first of all they took forever to root and also they developed these thinned elongated branches...is this happening to all of you out there or ... what went wrong with mines.

Mine came from Frank as scion with roots. I potted it and it exploded! My fastest grower after Sultane.

Yes, Aaron, it is a bit leggy and a fast grower. I don't think you did anything wrong at all, just a prolific grower. I concur with Tami, many thanks to Frank (FiggyFrank) for sharing these cuttings with us. I'm hoping to taste one this year.

Which Frank Tami?
Mines were from Frank dB. :)

FiggyFrank

yup :)

I've really gotta get heating for my shed.  I kept my potted figs in there and they either died back A LOT or are all dead.  The Chicago Hardy that's in the ground doesn't have any hint of growth yet either.  I'm guessing it takes figs that weren't heated a lot longer to come out of dormancy?

ArabicStudent, the in-ground ones here should be popping soon. All my in-ground trees look alive, but no new growth (yet). Takes a bit for the ground temperatures to warm up, which should make our in-ground pop soon. I had mine heavily mulched, so I'm sure now that they are uncovered and feeling these 80 degree days that we'll soon see green (if alive).

.... And our Carini is producing here in MD, thanks FiggyFrank!

Looks great, Mark!  Were they any good?  Mine should be ripening very soon.

Frank, here are a few more. Nice taste, not as sweet and sugary as some, but good flavor overall. We like it!
