Caution on eBay folks

I can understand the desire to get a bargain, but I see too many scammers on eBay getting folks to bid on their stuff.  There are quite a few sellers with no established history of growing figs and very little feedback.  Many photos from some of these sellers just aren't right so who knows what folks are going to be getting.

A seller in Portugal is selling Genovese Nero using photos if Red Israel.

Don't trust this seller at all (will leave it at that).  One of current auctions is for Lebanese Red with photo of what appears to be Celesete.  Really??  http://www.ebay.com/usr/jonat-sawye?_trksid=p2047675.l2559

There are others also that folks should stay away from, just use some common sense.

Than for the heads up. Looks like we should update the eBay good seller list and bomb it up for the noobs. I don't think I'll have anymore cuttings listed. But will have trees and starts in spring.

There someone on there selling two maltese falcon cuttings for 25$. Their name is yorkiesss, anyone know if they're legit?

I believe they're legitimate, though I've never bought or sold from them (think they bid on several of my auctions last year, though).  Feedback as seller looks very good and feedback as seller shows they have bought figs from several other well-known fig collectors.

Thanks for taking the time to post this, Harvey.

Any info on ebay seller  svet_vasyl-2008 ?

Thanks for that.

I don't know for sure, but I'd stay away.

See this old thread: http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=7178653

This seller has sold several Black Madeira trees for quite low prices.  "Too good to be true" seems fitting.  I do see recent purchases from ediblelandscaping_sc (Daniel), but not from other fig collectors as far as I can see.  In addition, the person seems to sell mostly other stuff so seems to just just selling something they think they can make a good buck off of.  Not worth the risk, IMO.

Thanks, I will take your advice until I hear positive references from members.

I got scammed EVEN in a trade, some 5 or 6 yrs ago. Did not take a year for me to find out. I think if anyone is buying it is
best to buy from members who have been active in the forum.

Yes, I think you are safer making trades on here with people you truly knowing who you are dealing with. People that all of a sudden show up trying to be part of this forum after they decide it is a way to get more people to buy at their auctions...

thank you ,was going to buy a lot from e-bay as I am new to figs...anyone every buy from ,just fruits and exotics?

wish list : any

I think if you searched you see a few threads where people were very happy dealing with them.

That is forum member jake......he is legit.

Wow that's a great variety.

big fig,   I've bought from just fruits and exotics, good girls out in the  panhandle. Bought figs and some rare find oriental persimmons that are notably different (true to what they advertise). A good starting point for collecting some fig varieties not sold at most other nurseries.

I would recommend just fruits and exotics they are a reputable nursery been around for quite a while and have a nice variety of plants for southern climates.

Common sense on ebay, look for high ratings, lots of ratings, and longevity. I let others gamble on the new ebayer with few sales and feedback. And of course US only for plants! Nobody wants a visit from the USDA.

Thanks for the warning HarveyC, I was watching the bid on the auction in your first posting.

yorkiesss and Just Fruits and Exotics are both good.

I have also had dealings with yorkiesss.  I was happy with our trade, nice looking plant for sure.

I would also look out for people who are not using pictures of the they are selling but stealing other peoples photos, also people who don't give you all the information on what they are selling no matter how much good feedback they have. It is always best to research before you buy. Saved me spending money on a fig cutting that would have been useless in my area.
