Hello, based on your growing experience is Celeste and its hybrids (O'Rourke etc) a must have fig for the Northeast or are there better choices? Its seems to have some good qualities like cold hardiness, taste and most importantly for me early repining. Thanks, Peter
You could read through the thread, "Best figs at your location" pinned to the top of the forum board to get some good ideas.Grantz5b
My problem with celeste is that there seem to be many different strains of it. A few are great, but even more are not worth growing. A better choice would be marseilles vs, sals, latarolla, and probably about 10 others.
I would echo part of Ed. Celeste is a great fig, but not all variants are created equal.
Thanks to everyone for the feedback & info. Alan: the thread you recommended was very informative. Pete
In The north east Celeste seem to drop the first part of the main crop, and it ends up not to be that early as it should because the fruits that persist and ripe are the later main crop.Improved Celeste is not dropping, but it has to be real improved, and only 2 are really improved:(Not O Rourke) Improved Celeste(O Rourke) improved Celeste
Great. If only I could find a source for these 2 :) Cuttings or live plants.
I put in for some from Jon but I didn't 'make the cut'
