Celeste: ate for the first time....it was good.

Went to a nearby flea mart and they had Celeste for sale.....I first thought they were black mission...but when the sun hit the skin it was reddish....
then I new it was Celeste....for me it left an after taste like cotton candy.....they were sweet but not super sweet.....I have a small Celeste tree

Looks like I am going to try to expand my collection at all Cost...LOL

Armando,

I have been growing Celeste for several years and have not been disappointed even in years where we have had almost no rain.  When you are lucky enough to have more than you can eat, they dry well and they can well. Some lemon juice and a bit of sugar to make a light syrup and you have a wonderful breakfast or desert treat. They make wonderful little Holiday gifts for friends and family.

I have a Celeste, new to my collection this spring. I was hesitant to buy it (wasn't pricey) but thought I'd give it a try . I really anticipated fig drop since I had read so much about that. Surprisingly I had no fig drop! The figs were small and very sweet. Weather here has been rainy ,hot ,cool, humid , you name it and no droppage ! I guess it could be an improved but the label did not say that , just Celeste. Hubby and I were very happy with this tree.

I am still new to fig collecting...and I am learning everyday....I really thought a few weeks ago....that there was basically 3 major varieties Kadota, Black Mission, Brown Turkey and that these guys were in some other world....I saw a Black Madiera...I thought a " a fancy" Black Mission......A Celeste to me was a sweeter Brown Turkey....a Peter's Honey another Kadota...etc.......Boy was I wrong.....Now I want everything...LOL

I am going to buy a Flanders in a few weeks....that impressed me, it exploded with flavor.
I have been having the most consistency with the Panache.....it is a strong variety and
grows consistent good tasting fruit.

I believe that Celeste is highly under-rated, but I will also say each person is entitled to their own opinion.  I had my first Celeste figs from Justin Palazzo who picked them locally in The Woodlands this summer.  I think they have a taste all their own, are a good tasting fig and I can't wait for my own tree to start producing (hopefully it isn't one that drops figs in the heat).  If it drops figs I'm going to have Justin take me to his secret trees (blindfolded if necessary) and get cuttings from those trees since they apparently do not drop figs.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Celeste taste. It was very sweet with a light brown sugar after taste. My Celeste was purchased as an improved Celeste, which it is not, but it definitely is a "Good" Celeste. a one year old tree dropped 2 figs due to up potting and bare rooting, but did ripen half dozen. I'm in total agreement on the under-rated status of this cultivar.

when you make celeste jam, you get the most amazing honey taste.

My first fresh fig was a Celeste and it hooked me from the first taste. Planning on doing a air layer next year from friends tree and hopefully a few figs for me the following year. I now have 10 different fig trees and plan on adding more next year. I think I have a fig problem!

Given a small Celeste tree at the Fig Fiesta, Can't wait for a fig, hopefully its a fast grower...the tree is small about 2 feet.Should be a good one it came from Jon.
Liked the Col De Dame Blanc. It had a great rich flavor. Next time we should have figs, wine and cheese...LOL   Or open some Beers...LOL

I love my Celeste, it is putting out it's second crop and I love stepping out on my front porch to grab a few. I've been having grilled chicken, blue cheese and fig salads for dinner with a splash of balsamic... been fantastic!!

My Celeste tree is my best producer. The fruit is sweet and leaves a refreshing taste in my mouth.I think some one should make fig flavored tooth paste!

Fig Flavored Toothpaste, Sounds Great. Let me be the first in line to place order....LOL
